Murray placed on waivers; Price to face Bruins

posted by Kevin Mio at 14h17 EST on Nov 7

Here's the latest news from The Gazette's Pat Hickey after Habs' practice this morning.

Garth Murray has been placed on waivers by the team. Murray has played in only one game this season and suffered a broke ankle in that game. He resumed skating last week. Should he clear waivers, he will report to Hamilton.

Carey Price will start in nets for the Canadiens when they take on the Bruins on Thursday.

It looks like Guillaume Latendresse will be a healthy scratch Thursday night in Boston after not being on one of the four main lines during practice this morning.

Andrei Kostitsyn will play on the second line with Alex Kovalev and Tomas Plekanec, while Mikhail Grabovski will play on third line with Tom Kostopoulos and Bryan Smolinski.

Francis Bouillon practiced with Mark Streit and looks ready to play tomorrow night.

Carey Price will be between the pipes on Tuesday night when the Atlanta Thrashers visit the Bell Centre. It will be Price's first start in Montreal and his second consecutive game after posting a 4-3 shootout win over the Penguins on Saturday. Read Hickey's story here.

Defenceman Francis Bouillon missed this morning's practice for what the team called a "therapy day," but he is expected to play on Tuesday.

Also, injured forward Garth Murray was back on skates today for the first time since suffering a broken ankle. However, he did not take part in the full workout.

Price will face Senators

posted by Kevin Mio at 14h48 EST on Oct 17

Carey Price will get the start on Thursday against the Ottawa Senators, The Gazette's Pat Hickey reports after Wednesday's practice.

Garth Murray, who played his first game of the season on Tuesday night, missed practice after blocking a shot against the Panthers. After practice, Steve Bégin didn't know if he would face the Sens, but was hopeful he would get that chance.

Head coach Guy Carbonneau juggled his lines again. Here's what they looked like today:

Higgins-Koivu-Ryder
Kostitsyn-Grabovski-Kovalev
Latendresse-Plekanec-Kostopoulos
Bégin/Chipchura-Smolisnski-Dandenault

There were no changes on defence.

Audio: Murray in, Bégin and Latendresse sit

posted by Dave Stubbs at 13h27 EST on Oct 16

micc.jpgThere's little surprise that Guillaume Latendresse is a healthy scratch tonight. There's a huge surprise that Steve Bégin will be sitting beside him in the press box. Head coach Guy Carbonneau has scratched both players, along with defenceman Josh Gorges, and will use Garth Murray and Mikhail Grabovski against the Florida Panthers.

--> Carbonneau speaks about his lineup tonight. He says, with more than a little edge in his voice, that he'll talk to his players off the ice, out of the view of media whose speculation and "having fun on TV" he doesn't enjoy. Clip runs 4:53.
--> Bégin admits he was stunned to learn he's a healthy scratch tonight. Clip runs 2:42.
--> Latendresse on being left out of the lineup. Clip runs 1:40.
--> Murray says he didn't mope during the four games he watched from the press box, and he understands the opportunity he has against Florida. Clip runs 1:05.
--> Bryan Smolinski on the challenge of playing a Jacques Martin-coached team. Clip runs 1:27.
--> Mathieu Dandenault on stopping Olli Jokinen, how he's enjoying the scenery playing forward, and the importance of backchecking – lest he hear it from the Habs defencemen. Clip runs 4:46.
