The action heats up ...

First UFA to switch teams: Radim Vrbata, Phoneix to Tampa Bay..

Three years, $9 million. He was making $1.225 million.

Significant because Vrbata's numbers – 27 goals, 29 assists – are very similar to Andrei Kostitsyn's. Vrbata was plus-6 on a lousy team.

Corey Perry re-ups in Anaheim: Five years, $26.625 million, $5.325-million per.

Getzlaf money – and a lot more than the $494,000 Perry made last season.

•  •  •

Brad Stuart, a stay-at-home defenceman who's stayed at home in San Jose, Boston, Calgary and Los Angeles, will stay in Detroit.

Four years, $3.75 million per. A modest raise on the $3.5 million Stewart was making, but two years of no-trade with a Stanley Cup team and a great second-pair defence partner in Nik Kronwall.

•  •  •

Pascal Dupuis stays in Pittsburgh.

Three years, $4.2 million. Nice raise on $880,000.

•  •  •

Edmonton has dealt Joni Pitkonen, who has never lived up to his potential, to Carolina for Habs-killer Erik Cole, who hasn't been the same power forward since Brooks Orpik's hit from behind nearly killed him in 2006-'07.

• •  •

Rumours that Evgeni Malkin will sign an extension in Pittsburgh. Crosby money: fives years, $8.7 million per.

Damn, Toronto just signed the tree AND Ravi Shankar as a conditioning coach.

Let's face it. the only way we sign anyone is if they WANT to come here. We can't compete by throwing big money + big years at guys, we have to think of the future. Let's just hope one of the guys we want sees the light, and decides Montreal would be a good place to play.

Im sure fans from the 29 other teams are saying the SAME thing.

Robert L's picture

I'm sure there are a bunch who'd come running now, but it's all scrap we've no need for.

Bingo bango bongo bungo.

These days, for some players $ talks alot more than location and team.

I understand that that applies to some players, but I didn't think it was all players, which it now seems to be.

originalsix's picture

These big shot players should think of it as an honor and privilege to play for one of the greatest sports team in history. When will they learn it's not all about $$.

It's not just the players, but the Agents who are the experts at driving the salaries up (as well as their own earnings). The player just say "WOW! where do I sign?"

originalsix's picture

I'm starting to get impatient....when is something going to happen! :D

Chorske's picture

The one and only move I really want to see is a contract with AK47's signature on it.

The rest (if there is a rest) is just gravy.

Robert L's picture

Geez, when did he grab Downey's number?

Chorske's picture

lol, it's been a long day... already

originalsix's picture

True enough. Thats one of things that's worrying me, although I don't think he's going to be tendered a contract by another team. The only other thing is if he demands waaay too much money per year, that'd suck.

The Teacher's picture

As soon as you move away from any media source lol, :P

Habhopeful's picture

Wow just heard on TSN as much as 4 teams have offered sundin contracts, one for a multi year deal @ 10 MILLION DOLLARS!!!

Tampa? lol highly doubt they could...i could see it being the rangers...

"If I wanted to hear from an ass, I would fart..."

Maffu's picture

YA! It's incredible. If he doesn't come here then we can hope he flops elsewhere for millions. In a nice way of course.

Mikeishockey2's picture

A source from TSN said that a team offered Sundin 10 million dollars. http://www.tsn.ca

Sources tell TSN

Sources (the little green man in my head) tell me their source is a named Barry. lol

LMAO LMAO,

That's got to be the Rangers. Their owners are undisciplined [see the New York Knicks in basketball].

can't be the rangers as they only have 22 million to spend and need 12 more players to fill out their roster. If they gave him 10 that would leave 12 mill to pay for 11 more players. not gonna happen

Cant be a contending team...who has the cap space?

Chorske's picture

Watch it be Toronto.
