<3 Youppi.
Thought you might get a kick out of this Youppi press conference...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSrTE83dT3Y
Hahaha, great video!! Thanks. Woo, Youppi!
Yes, I'm biased, whatever. I really don't get the Youppi hate in here. I thought it was really neat when the Habs "adopted" him. It wasn't the case of getting a mascot for the sake of team image or sales or entertainment or whatever reasons other teams get mascots -- not to get overly maudlin about it, but to me it was the Habs reaching out to our baseball team and giving Montrealers a tangible connection and reminder to our Expos. That's pretty cool.
It's also pretty fun watching a whole new generation grow up laughing at his fuzzy orange antics.
Youppi is fine. They have to change the Jersey... He would look better in white.
Players win games, teams win championships.

Oh come on guys.
It's Youppi for christ's sake.
I want him there. It reminds me of the good old times when Nos Amours were here.
I barely watch baseball anymore, it sucks......
Baseball is akin to watching paint dry, except painted walls don't scratch themselves. :)

The orange furball should be in Washington with that hack baseball team they've got down there. Seriously, how lame is a hockey mascot? This ain't San Jose, for bleep's sake. Youppi should have died with the Expos.
Gilbert
Well, if you're RDS, you have to fill the airwaves with something while you wait for Bob and Guy's postmortem presser.
I find it odd that the video skipped over Youppi's 1989 Vegas wedding to Cyndi Lauper (and subsequent divorce, 48 hours later) and the whole paternity suit issue with Lisa Marie Presley, but I understand that it was more a "celebration" of Youppi than a character piece. It was also tasteful of them to skip the whole gender question that created so much controversy back in '94. He's still married to Linda Evans, right?
And as for you folks arguing over the traditions of towels and mascots and all of that, I hope you agree with me that the Habs should ditch the rock music between plays and go back exclusively to the organ. I could care less about waving towels--a ten-second clip of Fergie's latest hit anytime there's a stoppage in play is not enhancing my experience of the game.
The Organ :) Removing it was one of the dumbest things they have ever done.
BRING BACK THE ORGANIST.
On another note. We really have to try and do something to pressure the NHL to improve it's CRAPPY refereeing.
In the playoffs, thug hockey rules. It's how the Flyers got past the first round. And the second...
Gilbert
I'm talking all season long included.
Yes, we had a good thread on the music question before. I strongly support the idea of organ music only at hockey games.
In principle, it is wrong for the Habs to have a mascot. And I hated those towels this year. Bush league stuff.
But I love Youppi, even though seeing him brings back so many bittersweet memories. Poor guy, I new he had some 'ard times, but I never realize that he hit rock bottom.
EVERYTHING YOU SAID IS BACKWARDS...
IN PRINCIPLE IT IS NOT WRONG...IT IS 100% RIGHT !!!
THE TOWELS WERE FANTASTIC AND QUITE THE COLLECTORS ITEM !!!
AS WELL - THEY ARE A TRADITION AND SINCE 1999 WE HAVE BEEN DOING THIS SO WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT NOONE KNOWS !!!
YOUPPI, WHILE CUTE AS A FURRY BASEBALL MASCOT, AND QUITE THE LOVEBALE MASCOT...
HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HOCKEY
AND IT IS YOUPPI THAT NEEDS TO GO !!!
WE NEED A HOCKEY RELATED MASCOT, NOT A JEAN COUTU RELATED ONE !!!
You need some FACTS FOR FACTS SAKE buddy. Lay off the CAPSLOCK and go back to Leaftown. Only Habs fans have the right to b@$ch about the Habs here. Do us all a favor and go to another site.

"GO HABS GO!""WE WANT VINCE!"
blah
Dude, you may want to hit that Caps Lock button again.
1. www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat
2. Josh Gorges on Montreal's attack: "They're comin', they're comin' and they keep comin'. Just line after line, wave after wave..."
Backwards maybe, but at least it wasn't all in caps...
Above all else, I stand by the comment that the Habs don't need a mascot. The San Jose Sharks need a mascot and the Leafs need a sushi restaurant, but the Habs and their fans don't need a mascot.
The Habs are a special team. They don't need Vancouver Canuck - Roger Neilson towel nights. It's been done before ad nauseam. Hab fans are loud and proud; skip the towels, the thundersticks, the t-shirt giveaways and (at least in theory) the mascot.
ahhh, Youppi... shoulda retired with the Expos. Possibly an "x-factor" reason for the Habs' struggles in the playoffs - who knows? never liked the idea of the orange furball joining the CH.
witty video though...
Great stuff! How many times did he ever knock over someone's beer when sliding on the dugout roof? :)
