Garbage Bag Day at the Bell

posted by Dave Stubbs at 6h01 EST on May 5

The Canadiens players drift through the Bell Centre today to clean out their lockers and pick up their offseason fitness programs before meeting with the team's hockey management then heading off into summer. Tomorrow, GM Bob Gainey and coach Guy Carbonneau will meet the media one last time to critique the season that was, and the next season that will be.

Inside/Out's Pat Hickey, Dave Stubbs and Mike Boone will spend too many hours at the rink today and will check in late afternoon with words and audio.

This is kinda random but- does anyone know if any of the players that are staying in town ever play hockey with kids? I heard that Kostopolous played with a couple kids and I just want to know if anyone can give me any advice on finding players to play street hockey with. thanks

I wouldn't be surprised if we signed Morrow. He is Carbo's son-in-law after all!

Brendan Morrow is signed through the 2012/2013 season.

Whoops haha

The Cat's picture

Hes said that on RDS for one (inbetween period interviews) whenever the habs played the islanders. And dont be a smart ass 'the teacher' ;).

The Cat's picture

While were debating about trading/keeping Higgins, do we know the answer to this question -does he like it here and does he want to stay? Seems Ive heard him say a few times that he wouldnt mind playing closer to his family (NYIslanders)

His Dad has been a Habs fan forever and him getting drafted by us has been a dream come true as he also was a CH fan growing up. As for playing closer to NY this is pretty close... Ultimately it's all about cash and where they can get the most...

NightRyder's picture

Keep Higgins for one more season, see if he can make the step from 50-point guy to 75-point guy. I think he can.

The Teacher's picture

LOL, cite it please?

I too heard Komisarek wants to play in Alaska because he LOVES the cold and hates the sunlight.

frank81's picture

I couldn't point you to a clip, but I've also heard Higgins say that he wouldn't mind playing closer to home. I believe he said it in an interview on The Score just prior to the start of the playoffs.

there is a disturbing post on page 2 (at this time) of this thread by Mr. Hainsworth in reply to my defense of Saku.....not sure I want to touch it with a 10' pole.

The Teacher's picture

Just don't talk to him. Higher powers than us will take care of him I'm sure.

the post about Saku (his 2nd post) I'd say is horrid....almost insanely incriminating.... he touches on a subject he or anyone else should never ever even hint at.

The Teacher's picture

just ignore him. Trust me, my fellow prof. LOL

affirmative.

The Cat's picture

Resigning Streit at the money he'll probably be worth is a mistake and money best kept for more pressing needs IMO.

Check out this website as you ponder next year's moves...

The way the last series went they should make an obscene offer to Umberger. If Philly matched maybe Umberger would get content, fat, and leave Montreal alone. If Philly didn't match the Habs might at least have a chance at shutting him down - worked with Ryder. Joke. Relax.

NightRyder's picture

My top 10 targets (as I talk amongst myself)

1. Mats Sundin
2. Jaromir Jagr
3. Ryan Malone
4. Marian Hossa
5. Daymond Langkow
6. Andrew Brunette
7. Brian Rolston
8. Sean Avery
9. Olaf Kolzig
10. Georges Laraque

Totally off-topic.

At work I have a write-up that references a rider in an insurance policy. . . and yup I spelled it Ryder!!!!

And now I leave it up to the rest of you to fill in the roster - I'll start:

I'm Begin for another beer . . . .

Oh yea since we have to keep it clean kosTITsyn's and hammerLICK may be off-limits.

I, along with many others, was calling for some new blood during the playoffs. We were collectively told that it was not possible because they were untested rookies. Did anyone else pick up on the fact that the Dallas Stars have THREE rookie defenseman in their lineup? If this years playoffs were mainly for seasoning of our young players, then not playing Chips, Stewart, Grabs and O'Byrne was a wasted opportunity. The energy boost and enthusiasm they would have injected might have helped. Oh well, water under the bridge. Bring back the Cup in our 100th year!

The Teacher's picture

Would I ever love to have Morrow. What a player. What we don't have. Coincidence? I think not!

cautiousoptimist's picture

He put out what he thought were the team's best players now. His primary goal wasn't to develop tomorrow's talent, it was to win the Cup, and rightly so. Maybe centres Grabs and Chipper should have had a game here and there, but I wouldn't have sat Koivu, Pleks, Lapierre or Smolinski for either of them.

1. www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat
2. Josh Gorges on Montreal's attack: "They're comin', they're comin' and they keep comin'. Just line after line, wave after wave..."

I don't want to get into this today, but your correct...and unfortunately it was a bad call by Carb...but he'll learn, I hope.

NightRyder's picture

Agree with the folks who talk about an overlooked part of our team - the backup goalie. We cannot have anyone in who is a potential threat to Price as a No. 1, or a goalie who aspires to be a No. 1.

Halak can be packaged for a draft choice, I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes Vokoun-like, but it doesn't help Price.

If Kolzig would come, he'd be ideal. Big guy like Price, great in the room, would be an excellent mentor.

Others: Curtis Sanford, Johan Hedberg, Curtis Joseph.

Unfortunately Kolzig Still thinks he can be number 1 and was pissed when Huet hit Washington.
