Audio: Canadiens in the wake of elimination

Nothing planned for the Canadiens on this rainy Montreal morning. Players likely will drift through the Bell Centre tomorrow to pack up for the summer, and there will be an early-week media debriefing by general manager Bob Gainey and head coach Guy Carbonneau.

Linked below: audio of players and Carbo gathered shortly after the Philadelphia Flyers had eliminated the Canadiens from the playoffs on Saturday night. Thanks to our friends at RDS, Luc Gélinas working the dressing room, for putting his mic in scrums while we were elsewhere.

Thanks to the Gazette and Habs Inside/Out for providing another year of great articles and "real" information. There are certainly days when I don't want to read the comments posted that follow these articles...but there are never days when I don't want to read the articles themselves. Great work! Of course you realize, it may be the end of the Habs season but if last summer is any indicator, there is no end to Habs I/O season.

Dave Stubbs has been a sportswriter since 1976, which was roughly a decade after he wore the first of many holes through the knees of his jeans playing nets in road hockey (using a modified butterfly popularized by Hall of Famer Glenn Hall). He still has the welts to show on his shins from that rotten, frozen orange ball. Stubbs kept thick hockey scrapbooks filled with game summaries and Red Fisher's Montreal Star stories, collected dozens of Bee Hive Corn Syrup photos and put a fortune of hockey cards through the spokes of his bikes. His fantasy is to travel back in time to the 1950s and watch the great Canadiens dynasty that won five consecutive Stanley Cups. Or a decade earlier, to watch Elmer Lach centre Rocket Richard and Toe Blake on the fearsome Punch Line. Or at least to get Rogie Vachon into the Hockey Hall of Fame – where he belongs.
