Not even Guy Carbonneau's lucky tie could save the Canadiens this time.

The Philadelphia Flyers eliminated the Canadiens from the postseason with a 6-4 win on Saturday night at the Bell Centre.

It was a game the Canadiens probably shouldn't have lost - as was the case several times in this series - but in the end, Montreal made a few too many mistakes as key moments that allowed the Flyers to advance to the Eastern Conference final.

The Canadiens scored the first goal of the game for the first time in the series when Tomas Plekanec redirected a Patrice Brisebois shot from the point 4:29 into the opening period.

But the Flyers got that one right back when R.J. Umberger, who has killed the Canadiens the entire series, scored a highlight goal at the midway point of the first period. Umberger's original shot was stopped by Carey Price, but Umberger was able to gather the rebound while sliding in his knees and slid it past Price's right pad.

Alex Kovalev gave the Canadiens the lead again 1:08 later when a Maxim Lapierre shot from the side of the net went off Kovalev's skate abd between Martin Biron's legs.

Montreal grabbed a two-goal lead 8:15 into the second period when Christopher Higgins beat Biron with a snap-shot from the faceoff circle. Saku Koivu had an assist on the goal, giving him a point in every game he has played in the postseason since returning from a foot injury and was one of the best faceoff men for Guy Carbonneau.

But the Flyers wouldn't go down easily and battled back with three goals in the last six minutes of the second period to grab a 4-3 lead heading into the third period.

The Flyers made it 3-2 at 14:02 when Umberger's shot went off Mike Richards in front of the net and fooled Price. Umberger tied the game only 1:42 later when he surprised Price from behind the net and caught the goaltender out of position along the post.

The Canadiens then got caught on a bad change as Scott Hartnell left alone in the neutral zone and he was sent in alone on Price by Kimmo Timonen. Hartnell beat Price to the glove side with a perfect shot that went off the inside of the far post and into the net for a 4-3 Flyers lead.

Andrei Kostitsyn, who had missed several golden scoring chances in this series, tied the game 4-4 2:13 into the third period with a quick wrist shot from the slot that Biron has no chance on.

Guillaume Latendresse had Biron beat with about four minutes to play, but hit the post and that proved costly for the Canadiens.

Scottie Upshall scored the game-winning goal with 3:04 to go in the game by deflecting a Jeff Carter shot from the point in mid air over Price's shoulder.

Mike Knuble finished off the scoring with an empty-net goal.

The Flyers outshot the Canadiens 37-34. The Canadiens went 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Flyers were 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

I do NOT believe Huet (although I like him) was the guy to take us all the way. Still, I think too much was put on Price too soon. He worked his butt off, and nobody here can deny that. Did he make some mistakes? Yes. Was putting the weight of the world on his shoulders the right move? Let's see what next year brings... ~Goose~ Habs fans, join my petition to DirecTV and NHL Center Ice to get the Habs on RDS. Email: habsonrds@cableone.net Thanks! GO HABS GO!

Dear Habs Fans: Thanks for the great season, especially for the singing when the series was over, that was very touching. It made Plekanec and I cry together, like little girls. I told Gainey not to trade Huet but he did anyway and now look what happened. I have decided to give more ice time to my 3rd and 4th lines next year. Thanks Again, Guy Carbonneau

WindsorHab-10's picture
I guarantee you that with Huet, the Habs would not have finished first in the conference and would've exited in the first round. Stop bringing up the Huet trade. Price is the real deal and what happened in the playoffs will only make him stronger, better and more eager to carry this team to the ultimate prize.

ths's picture
Hi Guy, Congratulations on a great season and the upcoming Coch of the Year award. Is it true you are bringing back Breezer at $2.1M and playing him as a wing and making him assistant player coach/captain ? Is it also tru that Gainey's big signing this summer will be HUET at $3.5M and Ryder at $4.5 for some clutch scoring punch ?

Such a disappointing end to what might have been....thanks for the ride, it was great while it lasted. Looking forward *sigh* to next season. This playoff experience can only help for the future. Price is the real deal - no matter what all the negative posters say. Always proud to be a "habs" fan - always will be............GO HABS GO Thanks to HIO team - great site! a la prochaine.....

I hope Price's development hasn't been substantially hurt by being thrown in over his head (or victimized by shoddy team play...either way that you see it.) But I think positive comparisons to Patrick can wait a bit if you please. Hopefully Price can rebound and become a good to great goaltender...too much was expected of him, I think. As an aside...I wonder what the Swedish phenom (Brunnstrom) thought of that exhibition??????

It was a good run. Hats off to the Flyers. They played hard, got the breaks and the goaltending. They deserved it because they wanted it more. Gainey and Carbonneau have a good start here on something special. We need to continue with the youth movement and we need to get a little harder to play against. A la prochaine! Go Habs!

First of all, non-hab fans posting on this site is pathetic. Seriously there must be a blog with others who like you and your opinions. If you added something I suppose it could be a great discussion - but nothing was added. As for the Habs. Lots or armchair GMs and that's fine. But just be levelheaded with your comments. Habs have some areas to grow in as all teams do - let's just hope they are addressed over the summer. Was an exciting year but in the end the Habs do not play play-off hockey. The first period of game 5 was play-off hockey. GO TO THE NET - seriously if nothing else then crash the net. Recall there was a play with a minute or so left (maybe less) when kovy picked up the puck behind our net and went the distance. Where was anyone crashing the net for a rebound - whomever was on the ice was watching and not playing. The summed up the past 12 games.

Puck Bard's picture
Someone had to lose. No regrets. It was a fun season. The better team won. Some of you need to learn to lose gracefully (ie: go to bed). Looking forward to seeing what Gainey does next. Looking forward to what the next round of hockey brings. Can't wait to see Price in action through a full season.

Mill4ever's picture
Well, it's over. I couldn't even yell at my tv anymore. After Lats hit the crossbar it was just obvious that the Flyers would go on and score one more fluke goal to win it. I feel bad for Price, he lost us the series, plain and simple. The save% of .85 (Carey) vs .92 (Biron) says it all. Thanks Habs for a great season, even if the ending leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

WindsorHab-10's picture
Carey is only human and his experience this year will only make him mentally tougher next year. Like we all know, the pressure of playing for the Habs is like no other and overall Price handled it beautifully. Hats off to all the fans at the Bell Center last night who chanted Carey's name and gave the team a standing ovation at the end of the game. Carey will be back and so will the Habs.

Mill - I'd rather lose with Carey than any other goalie.

The Cat's picture
The only things I can fault the habs (other than not beefing up at the trade deadline) is the way they handled the goalies. PJ Stock was right on HNIC in saying why was Price getting all these starts late in the year. And last night, with 3 minutes left when Philly scored the go ahead goal, some of those players should not have been on the ice for the habs. I dont exactly remember who was on because of the beer but I remember saying wtf is Guy doing putting those guys out there and sure enough...

Big Bird's picture
So you recommend firing Gainey? And if so, who do you suggest we replace him with?

Sulemann - You just went for the carrot , just what he wants, lol.

Big Bird's picture
You're right Bryan. Good advice my friend. I'll leave it be.

Truth is the Habs were lucky to get past Boston. The Flyers were way too big and way too disciplined. The Habs didn't stand a chance... and it really didn't matter who was in net. Personally, I'm a hockey fan and not a Habs fan. I can't wait to see the next round; hopefully against Pittsburgh. That will be a great series. Let Georges Laraque out against the Philly defence and see how hard they hit.... I predict 7 games in that series... either way. The rest of you Hab fan wingnuts who will ignore the rest of the playoffs because "we" are out, can bite me.

RH's picture
A lot like the MAJORITY of leaves fans who haven't watched a minute of hockey since their beloved got knocked out of the playoff race. Sports radio here in Toronto really is quite pathetic now-a-days. Then again though, I'm not much of a sports radio guy anyway.

The Cat's picture
I bashed Koivu during the year and Im big enough to admit that I was wrong and he has won me over. Next year ought to be a good year, we need one big centreman and another big defenseman for it to be a great year though.

Komi For Captain's picture
Defence issue solved: Josh Gorges... watch this kid be twice as important next year. His playoff stats are better than Komisarek.

Respectfully disagree. We need D-men who hit. His poke checking along the boards instead of eliminating time and speace by hitting the Philly winger led directly to their 3rd or fourth goal. Then he lost track of his assignment on the winner. I like Streit and he is a valuable player but he is also not big enough to play D in this league. A real conundrum about what to do with him as he is a free agent this summer. Fourth highest point getter on the team this year, but we need a defense that takes people out in our end.

pher pher's picture
i agree with you about Koivu. i was all for trading him, but his performance during the playoffs changed my mind. he was very impressive and is definitely our team's leader.

*Gasp* Trade Koivu?!?!?!

Put the hockey stick away and get a job so you can buy a new CHoke jersey that fits. I'll send you some hockey tape for next year. You can use it to fix your eye glasses that you broke when the Flyers scored the empty net'r.

Bruins Fan's picture
The Habs went 12-0 against the Bruins and Flyers in the regular season. The Habs went 5-7 against both teams in the playoffs. That's called CHoking ! I don't want to hear about where the Habs were picked before the season. Last year the Bruins finished 13th. The Flyers finished last at 15th place and the Habs finished 10th and only missed the playoffs by 2 points. All three teams made big improvements this year but in the end the Habs CHoked and especially Carey Price. Bob Gainey did a good job improving the team but made a big mistake putting a 20 year old in this position. He should have never traded away Huet who Gainey got .75 on the dollar for.

Lee Hayes's picture
Time to go to bed and get off the computer before mommy catches you. In the end we dominated your team and eliminated them from the playoffs...nuff said. No matter what pathetic spin you try to put on it the fact remains that we have the better team and organization! Now go away. Go Habs Go

Bruins Fan's picture
Good night goofball. The Habnots are once again eliminated and your season is over. This makes me happy while we here in Boston get ready for another Championship winning team. It's hard to keep track nowadays. While in good ole Montreal, it's time to put the superblades, ice skates, CHoke jerseys, and clown costumes away again. As they say, wait til next year. I realize it's all you got. So, get some rest, enjoy the summer, and try to get a job so you can pay off your bills you rang up supporting your team.

Bruins Fan's picture
Dominated my team ? Yeah, just during the regular season. The B's dominated your team during the playoffs. A better organization ? Maybe before but not now. You organization just ruined a promising young goalie. When was the last time you won a Cup ? Actually, I can't really hear anything you are saying because I have 3 Super Bowl and 2 World Series rings plugged in my ear. Do you sleep with your CHoke jersey on ?

HugeHabsFan's picture
Just curious...WTF does 3 superbowl & 2 world series rings have ANYTHING to do with NHL playoffs?? Give your head a shake. And do you have nothing better to do with your life than come on a CANADIENS fan site and harass people? ........... "To you from failing hands we throw the torch. Be yours to hold it high." I STILL BELIEVE. I WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE.

Do you still sleep with mommy? Oh, and by the way, we did BEAT you soundly 5-0 in game seven, eliminating you sorry little bears. Are you familiar with the concept of karma? Dude, stop trying to hide it. Go get some tissues. You lost and you are a goofy looking loser with nothing to live for right now. I understand. I told you. I didn't expect much from the B's this year considering we have all these other teams winning Championships in Boston. On the other hand. Your life is over. The Habnots are all you got. You have no job, you live in your mother's basement, your are goofy looking, you have no friends, and YOU LOST ! Ole, Ole Ole Ole, Ole, Ole !!!!!!!

pher pher's picture
c'est correct, on va la gagner l'année prochaine - le Tricolore toujours! we'll win next year guys'... i Hab faith! :)

*sighs* Tough way to lose.. I'm still heartbroken over it and will be for awhile. With such a young team, you know they'll take the loss, internalize it and come back a lot stronger next year. I know it won't happen but you'd wish that all these Koivu bashers would finally shutup now. He's proved AGAIN why he's the Captain of this team. Priority in the off season is to get him a big winger that can put the puck in the net. I'd also like to see another top 4 defenceman while our youngins mature. Anyways, that's a discussion for another day. I know it's hard to look back now but wow.. this team was a joy to watch this year. Through the ups and downs, comebacks and blowouts, WOW. The best is yet to come everyone, try to remember that and not get too down. I also want to thank the HIO staff for all the hard work they did all year. I enjoyed coming to this sight daily and will continue too next season. Go Habs Go!

you should watch more hockey and understand the game. Kovy was hounded to death. Double teamed, but yes, he had to be better. Lats needs time, but Lapierre needs to go. French kid, kid glove treatment will do him no good. Brisebois hopefully will retire before Carbo convinces Bob to give him more money. A gritty, tough player ala Laperierre or Ryan Malone and a Number four D-Man are on the to do list....

It was a good year of hockey.Lots of entertainment, ups and downs, but thats hockey. lets remember, hockey is also a game of mistakes,as well as good plays, most goals are the result of a mistake by some player. Before you know it,October will be around again.THANKS

Bruins Fan's picture
To Habs fans: You came to Boston with your big mouths and now you end the season prematurely with your tails between your legs. You like to dish it out ...well, now it's time to take it. It wasn't a good year because you were the #1 seed and you went to 7 games against the Bruins where you had way more telented players. Now you lose in the second round in only 5 games. The Habs were underachievers this year and it is a major disappointment. The Habs CHoked ! To Bob Gainey: Thanks for trading away a damn good veteran goalie that you wished you had in the playoffs. Where is all your confidence in Price now ? Bad move. Now live with it. To Carb: Once the Bruins figured out your Power Play and you had no answer. Switching goalies made no difference. Your team is an average .500 team without the Power Play you enjoyed during the regular season. You don't deserve Coach of the year. That award should go to Claude Julien after tall the injuries the Bruins suffered and considering his team was picked to go dead last before the season started.

Don't you have a baseball team to go watch... get a life... Even if he Habs Sucked they we're better than the Boston Ruins. Gainey allowed a young goalie to gain experience and be ready to show you the curb in game four of any round next year. Carbo is up for coach of the year I don't see the Lame *** Ruins coach up there... wait isn't it one of our garbage left over they hired! Claude Julien should be good next eyar it's about the same time he started being shitty here... We'll see how much you love that loser then. One thing you don't understand because you are so deep into your *** at Insulting us... Is that we don't care if they are eliminated we are PROUD of Them for the season they gave us. So Shut your Yap go chear for your Red Soxs since We fill up half your arena when we play your lame *** Ruins. So for every other Habs fan who is proud of our boys! Go HABS GO!

hrmmm its a major disappointment for you? a bruins fan? I think you might be confused. If you call first in the conference underacheiveing then I guess only the Stanely Cup champions are the regular achievers while the rest are simply sub-par. I'd have to agree with you on that one, Boston is a sub par team while parity is almost achieved with the Habs. You can whine all you want about injuries, but we had just as many green players as you guys did (and old and crotchety), and still came out on top in each series. I do agree with you about Claude Julien, he should have been nominated for coach of the year, though that hardly takes away from what Carbo did. and I hate to remind you where the habs were picked to place, but it wasn't that far up from the B's :P I think 13 or 14th was the TSN prediction. I'm personally excited about both the teams future and what it will mean for our rivalry, especially since a lot of the players on each team never suited up against each other in the post season. Hopefully you guys will put up a fight in the regular season next year :)

Bruins Fan's picture
The Bruins were without thier best player all year in Bergeron. Their second leading goal scorer (Kobasew) was also out. Manny Fernandez was out all year. Mark Savard had a broken bone in his back and came back in 2 weeks in time for the playoffs. Chara had a bad shoulder and had surgery right after the season. The Habs had everyone back when Koivo and Boullion returned. This difference wasn't even close. I'm sorry, when you finish as the #1 seed you are suppose to go deep in the playoffs. Not go 7 games against the #8 seed in round one and then lose in 5 games to the #6 seed in round two. That's called underachieving. The Bruins outplayed the Habs in 5 1/2 games but ran out of gas at the end. Julien made all the right moves and got $1.20 out of $1.00 from his team. He benched Kessel and he comes back and scores 3 goals in 2 games. Carb really didn't make any adjustments that mattered other than changing the Kovalev line in game 7. Yes, the rivalry will be back next year better than before.

Lee Hayes's picture
The only thing you got right is the fact that your sorry...a sorry loser. Go Habs Go

Bruins Fan's picture
Sorry ??? I'm happy. I took great joy watching your team CHoke and go down the tubes. The only think you are right about is being goofy looking while wearing a CHoke jersey. Now, give your Ole, Ole Ole Ole voice a break and go back to your job pumping maple syrup for the rest of us to enjoy for breakfast.

Lee Hayes's picture
We're proud of the people who make maple syrup, we're proud of our team, and we're proud to be Canadiens...where is your pride? So far all we've seen is how small and pathetic you are. As fans of the greatest team in NHL history, we know that there are people like you out there, that they have to fill the void of never getting to enjoy a season like we just had, with hate and spite, I almost feel something for you...well not really, it's obvious your a turd. The worst part is, we didn't play badly. Plus, Philly is not better than we are. That's difficult to digest. I feel somewhat robbed. Oh well, we had a few grit guys and get rid of some again parts, I think we'll be fine. I hope price rebounds too and these last few games didn't have a negative effect on him psychologically. _____________________________________________________________ 1. I think this was a great season for Les Habitants. They showed everyone that they were a playoff team and not one that a lot of people picked to be at the bottom of the league. Obviously I would have loved to see them win the Cup this year but they needed to play better than they did in this series to make it. Bottom line though is the team passed all of my expectations and I am very proud to be a fan and very proud of this team. Now what I think this does for the organization is t allows to position itself to be a Cup contender and in turn, make it a more desirable place for Free Agents. I think all this team really needs now is tweaking and we will be hoisting the cup very soon!!! I'm sure Gainey has some tough decisions to make, but I am certain whatever he decides, he will have the team's best interests in mind and we will improve. Thank You Canadiens for a great season and we're all with you through the tough times and the good! Vive Les Canadiens!!!!

Lee Hayes's picture
And thank you Kenny...was Chief Gordon a Habs fan? Seriously though, your point about free agents is well put. I think that will be the most common thread in the months leading up to free agency. Bring on all of the wanna be GM's, should be quite entertaining. Well...except for the never ending stream of redundent calls for one of the best GM's in the league to be replaced...oh, and of course timo's personal crusade to have Guy Carbonneau fired, that'll get a little tiring too! Go Habs Go

does anyone else see the irony of the Pens playing the Flyers after they tanked the last game of the season to avoid them? Anyway, a wonderful year has come to an end. Thanks, boys. See you October. In the meantime, go Flyers.

Wow, what a great season. We saw the arrival of both Kostitsyns. They are going to be all-stars. Kovy became the player he was always meant to be. Plekanec an iffy second line center became a 1st line Player. Higgins learned a lot this season and will become a top end, top six forward. Just a little more grit and physical play and he will surprise people. Latendresse took lots of heat but is coming into his own. If we get rid of Max he might not go the Ribeiro route and party his way out of town. On D, Komi and Markov are a solid #1 pairing. Hamrlik and OB could be our second line combo IF Breezer will go quietly. Gorges, Bouillon, present a challenge. Bouillon is great, Gorges could be but his size is a major problem. I see changes here. One or both could be gone. On the outs: Hopefully Breezer. I dont give ice time to aging, soft vets. We need a puck moving D-man, who can also play full time D with some toughness (hear that Bob? Toughness!). Mark Streit: see above. Ryder: A one trick pony, and that pony left town... Smokes: Great season, Chipper takes your spot. Dandenault: I see a buyout, we eat half the contract but we need the space. Feel free to disagree but we need size, toughness and a solid defenceman if Valentenko isnt ready.

Generally agree with all of that. We need speed and toughness. We have some very skilled players but they get pushed around. If Latendresse can go to power-skating school he may develop, but he is just too slow. I watch a lot of the western conference as I live in LA. Watch the Sharks, Stars, and Red Wings. It's a whole different game and a different speed and level of intensity they play. There isn't one team in the east that can play with these teams. So while we made great strides in the eastern conference this year, we still have a long long way to go beofre we can hope to hoist the cup.

I posted this yesterday...seems like it applies even more to today's posts. Forgive the repitition: I've just spent around an hour catching up on all the posts on the last 4 threads...and boy o' boy did it start to get to me, seems like we have 4 or 5 posters who do nothing but bait people with the same broken record of aspersions concerning many of our players, our coach, and even Bob Gainey fer cryin' out loud. And some posters unfortunately took the bait, while I don't condone some of what's been said, I can understand the passion. This site attracts predatory fools. One trick ponies with alot of time on their hands(prisons should really monitor internet use). That being said, you can always count on the old guard to come through in the end. Putting the "broken record" crowd in their place with logic and class might not accomplish anything, but the effort is noble. I watch the games, I yell and swear at the TV and the players therein, I bitch to my wife...I even have taken to calling a certain player "hands of stone"(I'm sure a few of you will catch that reference). But one thing I don't do is badmouth the boys or coaching staff in public. Call me a glass is half full guy if you want, but I don't want to waste anyone's time on this site by having them read repetitve drivel, or destructive critism. Constructive, erudite, well thought out observations...absolutely! There appears to me to be several different types of posters on this site, and I'm firmly in the "thinks before he posts" class. I'd suggest that people take the time to really think before they type, especially when the other guy/gal is trying to get some attention, that way maybe if they don't get a reaction they might just go back to pulling the wings off flies. And by the way..Carbo gets my vote for the Jack Adams, look for my post under that thread if your interested(I figured there's no point to posting it here as well). Go Habs GoGo Habs Go Go Habs Go

The Habs were lucky to get by the first round where the Bruins wore them out. If you want to talk about a questionable tripping call think back to the OT period in game 2 against the Bruins. If it wasn't for that bad call you would have never made it to the second round. Lets face it...you CHoked ! Carey, Carey, Carey....Ole Ole Ole Ole....Hahahahahaha !

TSN- Added Koivu: ''It's not an easy situation for (Price). I'm sure he felt the pressure and that there are a few goals he's like to have back, but you have to learn from these experiences. ''There's a goaltender who will win a Stanley Cup for this team one day. He's that good.' That's a vote of confidence if I ever saw one. "One face-off, one battle, one shift, one period, one game, one series at a time." "Are the Habs ready to pay the Price?"

Well, there were many steps in the right direction this season. Too bad Price had the most bizarre luck I've seen a goalie have in the playoffs and our shooters luck was mostly bad as well. It's good-bye to Dandeneault, Smoke, Breezer and Ryder. Maybe Begin, as well. It'll be good riddance Philly after the next round. Never seen a team deserve a series win less. Love my Habs no matter what!!! Montreal outplayed Philly the entire series. Philly had lucky bounces and goals. We hit 8 posts in this series......EIGHT!!!!! If half of those would have gone in it would have been the Flyers sent packing. On the other hand, Biron was outstanding! MVP of the series. And Price just needs more NHL experience (and better defense) I never saw The Habs stand up players at the blue line. Boston and Philly did. Lets face it, The Habs barely beat Boston. Les boys need to learn playoff hockey. Oh, and Huet would have made a nice backup goalie. Go Habs Go!!! (I can't believe we have to wait 5 months...*sigh*)

To BG, Carbo and the team, we all know this is but a stepping stone and a hard lesson, so we'll see you next season and thank you for an exhilarating year of hockey! Cheers! smiler

"Viva", right back at you...keep the faith! Go Habs Go

it's called karma. flyers had it, and we didn't. In the playoffs you need to be lucky, and we weren't. they got all the breaks and bounces and we didn't. i also think their defence and PP was better than ours. But I also think and hope that Pittsburgh crushes them. I'm predicting Detroit will win the cup. Anyways, it wasn't meant to be. Before you know it, it's the draft, and then start of UFA season on July 1st. Can't wait until then. This team is going to be even better next year. I can feel it. I hope they've learnt that in the playoffs you have to play differently, elevate your game, and show more grit.

Don't blame Carbo, Price, Gainey, Brisebois, anyone. Blame the tattoo of mine, we're 0-4 since I got it. :-( Sorry guys. ~Goose~ You can polish a turd all you want (Maple Leafs fans do this) but it is still a turd.

There's no way Brezzer is back next year. This team doesn't need an old broken down cough up the puck defenceman. Valentenko will make the team, and Gainey will go get another experienced defenceman. Say goodbye to: Smolinski, Breezer, Begin, Ryder, Latendresse(needs to spend time in Hamilton), maybe Bouillon, and Halak. Gainey needs to get an experienced goalie. If we would have had an experienced goalie, he could have come in when Price let all the soft goals in. Halak at 22, is not the answer as a backup. I'm sure Gainey will make the appropriate changes to improve this team. slackers who don't have grit, will be traded away or waived. I'm wouldn't be surprised if Plekanec is traded. Good fits would be Rolston(lots of experience), maybe Gratton, with his big size on the 3rd line. Tanguay maybe, or St. Louis with his grit, or maybe Straka? I don't know but changes are in order. Also I think 1 of our prospects, maybe Webber will make the team, and Stewart will replace Begin(brain dead) on the 4th line. I truly believe with better goaltending next year, we could go a long way, but I have to admit that I don't have the same confidence in Price, that I had during the regular season. I'm concerned about his mental psyche. Maybe he just doesn't have the mental toughness to make it during the playoffs, when the pressure is so great. I'm also disappointed in Carbo. He doesn't seem to know what to do when adversity hits, and his coaching leaves something to be desired. But the future does look bright(despite Carbo), and this team has gained valuable experience, and will do better in next year's playoffs. I will always love the habs, even tho sometimes I tend to be critical. I just want them to win so badly, that I find it difficult to accept defeat. great season guys! next year I'll be saying" great playoffs guys!"

LB Chase - You are a cancer on this site.

A no-brainer? Really? With a Hart and Vezina Trophy Winner under contract? With a goalie not ranked anywhere near #5 overall. With glaring needs at all other positions at the time? Getting Kovalev for nothing? Getting Hamrlik? Gorges? Kostopoulos? By Attempting to sign players we NEED, like Smyth, Shanahan, and Hull? Dropping Ribeiro (yes this is STILL a positive), Bulis, Dagenais, Theodore. Invigorating Kovalev's will to play this year? Stuff like that? "One face-off, one battle, one shift, one period, one game, one series at a time." "Are the Habs ready to pay the Price?"

Way to let him have it Teach!! Go Habs Go

"There's no way Brezzer is back next year. This team doesn't need an old broken down cough up the puck defenceman." You just watch.

Just like this site doesn't need an old run down broken record?(I know your quoting someone else's drivel, but it could have just as easily come from you) Why don't you focus your ire on the flames, you afraid Jerome might track you down and put a muzzle on ya? I wish you'd change your avatar...I'm beginning to dislike Sacha Cohen. Piss off timo piss off ;p

Well it was a fun ride, and I look forward to 2009. The Habs came a long ways but in my humble opinion they need to make a few changes. If I was to prioritize Gainey's list the first addition would be a big centre to work down low and crowd the front of the net on the PP. IE.. Sign #4 from the Bolts. Next I would say bye to Patrice ( though I thought he was more than adequate this year)and replace him with a tough six/seventh D man such as Vandemeer out of Calgary. They need someone to keep the opposition honest down low. I would also work O'byrne into a regular spot. Then purchase Dandenault's contract,Smokes if need be, say hosta la vista to Ryder( it was good while it lasted)and then debate long and hard if they want to sign Streit. He seemed to fade badly in the playoffs, especially his ability on the point of the PP.

Mike Boone, Dave Stubbs, Kevin Mio, Pat Hickey and Chris Aung-Thwin, and all from the Mtl. Gazette. I would like very much to thank you for your professionalism in reporting and entertainment. You have made this site into a great community of fans from all over the world. And I very much would like to attend another wonderful Summit and a chance to meet with this community in Montreal again. If there is any way I could help with putting another summit on let me know.

i hate blaming things on the refs and on luck but i honestly think that those 2 things played a big part in this series. how many times did they not call obvious penalties or did they call bad ones against us .. especially that high stick on begin and umberger and biron alone destroyed us. i think we made biron look way too good, most of the time the puck just hit him when he never saw it .. and they dont call the posts a goalers best friend for nothing and price i think looked very careless out there, he was slow to getback into his net after he cleared the puck, or to get up when he was on the floor .. i dont think he had any reason to be so unmotivated, i mean the team was playing well and was up 3-1 .. he squandered that lead by letting cheap goals in. and i dont think the goal that richards scored when he sticked out his hand should have counted, it was obvious that he was trying to deflect it. thanks for a great season guys and i cant wait to see saku hold up the cup next year !!!!!

Come on, there is no way Canadiens fans should be complaining about the officiating in this series. They were probably all in Montreal's dressing room after game 1 celebrating the win with the team (the Habs only won because of a "tripping" call against Richards). If anything, it has become evident that the NHL, led by commissioner Gary Buttman, has been conspiring against the big, bad Flyers to keep them from advancing in the playoffs.

It was fun while it lasts. Thank you HIO and the team for all the entertainments. It certainly has made the Montreal winter more enjoyable. Merci et a la prochain!

French Canadien goalies - The Habs had a problem with them this year shut out five times this past season by them & then Biron in the playoffs.....

Disappointing end to what truly was a very good season, not only making the playoffs but winning the conference, with rookie goalies to boot. Tonight's game was in the bag I thought until the Refs screwed it up by calling an interference penalty on Price which I thought threw him off his game and the flood gates opened. Carbonneau had a very good year behind the bench and should win the Jack Adams but does he have an allergy when it comes to calling a timeout? I thought he should've called one after Philly tied the game and especially after they went ahead 4-3. Oh well. This series really got under Price's skin. I hope he's able to shake it off and come back to lead the team next year. All in all, a good season, one that I was extremely happy with as were most fans. I trust Bob will make the necessary moves knowing full well that our youngsters will be that much better next year. Tough pill to swallow but tomorrow is a new day and I can't wait until next year. Thanks HIO staff and have a nice summer everyone. GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm wondering if we can add an ignore feature to the room...It sure would be nice if we didn't have to see Chase, Hab Prof, Pats and the rest of THEM next year...I know some of you are going to say, don't read their posts, we I guess it's kinda like driving past an accident, you always look !!!!!
