Playoff Pool Update

Sakic? Gone.
Forsberg? Gone.
Stastny? Gone.

With a crushing 8-2 victory, the completely dominant Detroit Red Wings eliminated the stricken Colorado Avalanche from the 2007-08 NHL playoffs. Dark-horse selections, like Jose Theodore and Ryan Smyth, will be applying band-aids to their bumps and bruises and heading to the beach for a longer summer than anticipated.

Speaking of dark-horses, can anyone say: Johan Franzen?

Here's who I have left the day after:

1. Datsyuk
2. Zetterberg
3. Crosby
4. Malkin
5. Rafalksi
6. Lidstrom
7. Gonchar

... and maybe
8. Thornton
9. Campbell
10. Nabokov

Who cares

Big Bird's picture

Here's who I have left before the Eastern Conference Finals at 164 points:

(1) Malkin
(2) Crosby
(3) Datsyuk
(4) Zetterberg
(5) Richards
(6) Lidstrom
(7) Timonnen

I hope Detroit beats Dallas so I can make it on the leaderboard. At least I'm guaranteed to have a couple of players from the Eastern conference in the Finals.

Although it would have been better to have Montreal instead of Philadelphia as I lost 5 Habs players. And I do support one team over the other. ;-)

FSLN's picture

Yeah Scotty, I do. I'm in 13th now but I'm heavily in the Sharks and Montreal. I only picked from four teams (Plus Ovechkin) and I was lucky enough to pick Franzen. I imagine my Wings and Pens players will keep me in it but unless Montreal and San Jose pull off some miracles I think I'm done....

m00ks's picture

I'm in deep doodoo if SJ gets eliminated. I still have a stock full of Pens and I've got a few Wings on my team though. That said, I'll enjoy this moment. FIRST PLACE! WOoohoo!

Scotty90's picture

anyone currently on the leaders list that have Avs/Sharks players?

doug's picture

i'm not high up, but i'm on the list, and i have stastny, thornton, campbell, and nabokov.

thorton,marleau, campbell and nabokov

Les-Habitants's picture

Man, I've been slowly making my way up the standings, but like a lot of people, I've invested heavily inthe four teams I thought would make the finals: Habs, Pens, Wings, Sharks. Comeon Price and Nabby!!!

Big Bird's picture

Still in the peanut gallery but not by much. Thank God I picked a few Detroit players and some Penguins. No way I can win but I'm hoping to make the leaderboard at least when this thing is said and done.

And it's now official, this year's John Druce award officially goes to Johan Franzen. Runner-up is (gag) RJ Umberger. No nominees from the Habs.

Last but not least, major props to Chris for setting this up. It has to be a lot of work to keep track of things.

I am now standing at 137 pts.

16th place. Too bad my two goalies are Nabokov and Price, I'm going to drop unless one of them make a miraculous comeback (prefferably Price). I also suspect I'm going to loose Plekanec, Kovalev, A.Kostitsyn, Streit, Markov, Jagr, Thornton and Campbell soon. If that happens, I have just to hope for Detroit-Pittsburgh in the finals, with Crosby, Malkin, Hossa, Gonchar, Lidstrom, Zetterberg and Datsyuk in my squad.

Humm still kicking in the pool, but I think we need to checking into my proposed allogations on this whole Frazen relationship with Homer Simpon... The shape of their head are undenyably similar? Their must be an episode were Roids were involved... concluding that Detroit is being supplied illegal substances by a fictional cartoon character!

doug's picture

I think Franzen looks like Phillip Seymour Hoffman from Magnolia, Capote, Boogie Nights, etc

Wow - I've gone from eighth place to out of the top 51. Who'd have thought these guys would steer me so far out of contention:

12 forwards
Datsyuk - DET
Zetterberg - DET
Kovalev - MTL
Malkin - PIT
Thornton - SJ
Ovechkin - WAS
Iginla - CGY
Gaborik - MIN
Crosby - PIT
Morrow - DAL
Plekanec - MTL
Getzlaf - ANA

6 defensemen
Phaneuf - CGY
Green - WAS
Burns - MIN
Streit - MTL
Gonchar - PIT
Lidstrom - DET

2 goalies
Giguere - ANA
Price - MTL

1. www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat
2. Josh Gorges on Montreal's attack: "They're comin', they're comin' and they keep comin'. Just line after line, wave after wave..."

The Teacher's picture

Gaborik is the killer. don't worry, I took him too.

"One face-off, one battle, one shift, one period, one game, one series at a time."

"Are the Habs ready to pay the Price?"

Scotty90's picture

how many pts you got cautious?

You're dropping because your players are spread over a lot of teams. The key is to choose a lot of players from the teams that go really far into the playoffs. Choosing half the team from each of the two teams that go to the Stanley Cup-final would probably (or at least possibly) give the win in the pool.

the detroit offense last night

wow

just...

wow !!!

saku11saku11's picture

from monday 5/5 philly inquirer:

the montreal offense the last two nights

WOW

JUST

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol !!!

that all changes tomorrow night

tomorrow night their headline's gonna be

"ow...just ow...Habs Stun Biron with 7 goals !!!"

With the quick exit of the Avs I can officially remove myself from any contention.......good luck to all. I had Frsberg, Stastny, Sakic and get this......Theodore.....I really had faith that they could get it done but injuries to Forsberg, Stastny, Smyth, Hannan, Wolski, Svatos, Theodore (his confidence has been injured for years lol) did them in and ruined what could have been another classic series with the Red Wings.

doug's picture

i've known i was done since Robert L posted his roster and we were identical except two players, and it came down to Statsny beating his two guys who were both both still in it. And one of those two guys was Franzen.

Got it?

I don't. . think I need a coffee and I'll rewrite.

24 Cups's picture

kRob - Don't Cry For Me Argentina! I would imagine that San Jose will be next to exit and that will be the end of me as well as a few other people in this pool. The guys with a loaded Pittsburgh-Detroit lineup will probably be there at the end.

The Original 24.4 Cups

The Teacher's picture

I would have 6 left, but no goaltender. My remaining guys would be Holmstrom, Datsyuk, Lidstrom, Crosby, Malkin, and Gonchar, just like everyone else I'm assuming.

My goalies were Giguere and Price, talk about goofing. But then again, Carey's going to pick up another 3 wins this year at least :)

I still have faith, hope for the Habs comeback.I have 8 habs & 6 wings.

San Jose goes, I'm done as well.
