Carbonneau deserves the nomination. First in the Eastern Conference after the geniuses picked the Habs to finish anywhere from 8th to 13th, depending on who's predictions you read. I'd heard some say that Claude Julien should've been nominated as well. The Bruins were picked to finish DEAD LAST by THN so, maybe he deserves more credit than he's getting. Ultimately though, I think Boudreau will get it. Taking a team from last to first in the span of, what 3.5 months, should get ANY coach's name on that trophy. Great story as well. The NHL needs MORE offensively minded coaches like Boudreau. The trap has just been dominant too long and those coaches that live by the trap have made this game incredibly boring at times.

How about Dave Tippett? He has the Stars playing unbelievable hockey. Some said that people might start copying the Ducks style after their Cup run, but I think that teams would be wise to take a look at what is going on in Dallas. They're fast, they play with skill, they never quite on a play and they keep coming at you. Tippett has done a fantastic job.

Oh yeah... Carbo for the coach of the year. Perhaps for the prime minister as well. Some coach.

I really wsh there was an "ignore user" button so I would never have to read Timo's retarded opinions about our Coach of the Year!

Regardless of our playoff outcome, Carbo delivered a team that was predicted by every pundit under our lovely yellow sun to finish 12th or worse, to the promised land. What we're witnessing now in the SECOND round are the failings of the team(yes we have gaps and deficiencies), not our coaching staff. All the second guessers can go strait to H...oh wait, thats right I'm not supposed to be so agressive on this site anymore(my hockey therapist says it does me no good to pick on the unfortunates around here). This is a young team, and their showing it, lord knows I love 'em as much as anyone should love a hockey team that they don't actually own, but lets be realistic, even if we go out in the SECOND round it has to be looked upon as a stunning success. And the coaching staff deserves a huge amount of credit! If I had a vote it would go to Guy, all bias aside, he's earned it. If we look at the all around improvement that Guy has shown behind the bench this year from last, then extrapolate that curve over the next two seasons...well I think the team is in great hands.

Many of you are undoubtedly furious that we're not neccessarily going to win the Cup every year. And I share in your frustration...O.K. not really, but I do feel a little dissapointed(powerplay), and I certainly have not given up hope yet(we could pull off the great comeback ala 2004 vs the stupid bears), but no matter what the outcome, this very young team will have learned so many of the big lessons that a young team must experience before they can take the next step. Need I point to those silly flightless birds? Look at the growth that they've shown over last year. Still I gotta admit that I would have loved to see our beloved Habs go up against Crosby & Co. in the Conf. Finals(I know, I know, still might happen).
So before ya'll get freaky weird and start demanding wholesale changes, and the removal of Carbo's head(suspended by the "tie"), to be hung in the alumni room. Take a breath and come to terms with the fact that even the most astute of the HIO posters(Robert L, Teach, EBK...ect), are not in the same league with the coaching staff when it comes to game prep, strategy and execution. And suggesting that Carbo's best coaching manuever of the post season was the selection of a tie, is simply crass(unless it was a joke, it's so hard to tell sarcasm from idiocy in print form).
So it's back to the Bell Centre for game five(I have a good feeling about this one), and win or lose I think this team has truly turned the corner.

My vote for the Jack Adam's: Guy Carbonneau

Go Habs Go

I think Boudreau deserves it with the Capitals unbelievable comeback to make it to the playoffs as a third seed. He really turned their season around.
Carbo did well in the regular season, but in the playoffs..not so much.

Good point, but Washington is out of the playoffs, so obviously Boudreau didn't do so much in the playoffs either. Both are equally as deserving IMO

Genius even. And I'm guessing that everything he's done all season to get this team to the top of the Eastern Conference means nothing right? Right.

If finishing at the top is the only criteria you base it on then I guess Detroit's coach should be a shoe-in? Right.

HugeHabsFan's picture

I didn't say it was the *only* criteria, but let's face it, he has lead this team to where it is today. There are many more criteria, this is just an important one.

Well my vote would go to Boudreau in Washington. He did more with far less depth. More "bang for his buck" so to speak.

Also as much as we Habs fans like to say we weren't "supposed" (I think a more realistic word would be "expected") to do as well as we did, the fact remains that Washington actually WAS doing terribly from day one until Boudreau took over. On the other hand we were surprised from day one and perhaps underestimated our roster. Boudreau really turned that team around and got the most out of what he had to work with. Only seems fitting to give him the nod, since the turnaround is blatantly obvious.

You tell it!!

Can certainly see why tonight!! Whoo! Checking line with a minute left! PUUUUUUUUUUURE GENIOUS!

smiler2729's picture

That "checking line" has generating more scoring opportunities than the Kovalev line!

ebk's picture

not to slag the checkers but how do you figure?

Kovalev,Koivu and Higgins have 5 goals and 5 assist combined this series
Smolinski,Begin and Kostopoulos have 1 goal and 1 assist combined
