Hell the HABS are the ONLY CANADIENS TEAM
Two things:
I really don't care if we are "Canada's team".
And-
How does one become and remain a Toronto Maple Leafs fan?
On thing one: not a big deal, but it's still kinda nice to know that people are rooting for us from sea to shining sea.
On thing two: I'm not sure, I think it involves bending over.
1. www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat
2. Josh Gorges on Montreal's attack: "They're comin', they're comin' and they keep comin'. Just line after line, wave after wave..."
How does 1000 surveys represent all of Canada's opinions and feelings?
A total CDN population of what? Close to a billion people? and 1000 surveys is supposed to represent popular opinion?
Was going to forward this info to all the Leaf fans I know, then stopped when I saw only 1000 surveys were received.
Go Habs Go!! A win tonight is in order. Don't be the Rangers!!
Canada doesn't have anywhere close to a billion people! About 36 million. In statistical analyses, 1000 is not low. I took stats course in high school, don't remember a lot, but that is about the norm. The accuracy of 3.1 points 9 times out of 10 is also about normal. That's how they can predict an election win with only 50 out of 150 ballots counted. Any statiticians out there to clarify??
------------------------------------------------------------
My ultimate dream: Captain Saku Koivu skating around the Bell Centre holding the Stanley Cup.
I know this is a pride thing, this strive for acceptence, but there are also non-Canadian fans out here... Yes, it may be different for us US fans because Baseball and Football or Euro fans with soccer dominate the majority of sports coverage, but my and others I suspect, love the Habs as much the majority of the polled 40 per cent of Canadians that identified with the Habs. I say this, not because I think I am a better fan or don't understand national pride, but more because most of them are bandwagon "jump-ons" with the HABS being only Canadian team that is left in the running at the moment. I bet that the Senators were Canada's team last year at this time.
I am glad that the Habs have a growing respect, but I would also throw out caution to the wind... For some of these "newly aquired" fans who have not gone through the growing pains experienced in the organization, will be the first to bash or call for change with this young team if they don't achieve their ultimate goal this season. Nothing worse that a bandwagon fan saying, "I told you so..." as if they understood your team better than you.
So in short, I may not be Canadian (although I have roots that stem from the three rivers area), but I still love my Habs!
Go Habs Go!
At the risk of getting violently flamed, beaten and dragged over to Toronto to live there, I'd like to point out the truth about survey-sourced statistics:
In many cases, you can make them say whatever you want. It's very hard to make them truly objective.
Take this survey: As great as the idea seems, come on guys...how objective can it be? The survey was performed between April 24th and April 28th, after the Sens and Flames were knocked out and after Toronto didn't even make the playoffs. Who ELSE could Canada's team be right now? I'd be much happier with this news if it came at midseason and they'd asked more than .3% of the population.
Now that the statistical facts are out of the way, let's get some more facts into this post: Of course the Habs SHOULD be Canada's team. Who else? Only the greatest hockey franchise in sports history, if not the greatest sports franchise in the world's history (Mentionned only because I'll give points to the Yankees and Man U). They ARE based in the greatest city in the world. They also rock because, screw it, WE ALL SAY SO.
11 for 25.
Always remember that there are lies. Then, there are damned lies. Lastly, there are statistics. (And polls):)

About freakin time.
Ex nihilo nihil fit
I wonder if HNIC, the CBC and TSN are aware of this fact.
I don't think they will notice cuz there covering the all important marlies series.
Okay, so now we have to prove that we deserve that honour... http://habsbros.blogspot.com/
Hey dont push I have been on the bandwagon since early 40 tys
Okay, random thoughts.
Is Umberger that good a player to be lighting the lamp on us this consistently?
Is Biron that much of a world beater that we can't score goals on him?
Is Richards that big of an imposing figure that we don't seek him out for his right hook on Halak last night?
Who actually shot Hatcher out of a slingshot to hit Bouillon like that? (I think it was kind of like when you're running down a hill and you get to the point where you're body keeps going faster but there isn't a snowball's chance in hell your legs are going to catch up. That was Hatcher on that play, I think).
We have hit WAY too many posts in this series thus far. That won't last. Biron has lost pucks WAY too often this series and has been bailed out more often than not by his D-men. That won't last either. Our guys have been beaten to the pucks a lot, but we seem to be coming around on that. Hopefully next game we'll have that urgency that Coach Carbo spoke of.
In my opinion, and some may view this differently, I think the Flyers got extremely luck last night on the back of a weird game by our boys. Come on, 14 shots? That won't win too many games for you. We've outshot them this series. Not only that, but our chances are phenominal! We're RIGHT THERE!! We're sooooo close I can taste it!!!
Tomorrow night is a HUGE game.
Win, and we've knotted this thing and we can throw the first 4 games in the garbage and then proceed to put OUR stamp on this series.
Lose, and we're right back to Bruins/Canadiens circa 2004. Not impossible to get out of, but not a desirable situation.
If anyone cares, I think we're going to wring snot out of 'em tomorrow.
GO HABS, GO!!! Find the throttle, and a brick!!!!

Today, we were talking about NHL farm teams and my son asked me "what team was Toronto's minor league team?" I told him it was the Maple Leafs.
Since the beginning of the playoffs, I've had my little Habs flag flying on my car and, every so often, I'd pass the same car, a silver Mazda Protege5, going the opposite way, with its own Habs flag flowing in the wind. The Bruins series was pretty lonely, and I was beginning to wonder where all the Habs fans were. I even saw a couple of Bruins flags waving in the wind and had a stare down of sorts, with the owner of one of those vehicles. Lately though, I've been noticing a lot more flags on cars driving up and down the 401 and, especially around my company's job in Oshawa. Slowly, Habs fans are starting to show their colors out there and it's a really great sight to see.
On a side note. Last week, I had just gotten off the highway and was driving north on Salem rd., in Ajax, when a couple, in a dark grey....I want to say Grand Prix, but I could be wrong, passed me and honked and waved at me. I knew they were Habs fans and they were reacting to the flag on my car but, I was taken aback and a little surprised. I waved back in customary politeness but, really just sped away quickly. If the couple who were cheering and honking at me frequent this website and read this, please don't think my reaction was one of snobbishness or arrogance. I was really just taken by surprise and didn't quite know how to react at that moment.
Here in Montreal, I see at least one car on every street with the CH. The biggest one I saw was on the back of a station wagon: it was 3 feet high and 4 feet long. Show your colours, RH. It's the Habs thing to do this time of year.

Hey! I too am zipping around Oshawa and Whitby with my Habs flag (and license plate frame)...if you see a blue Civic with said Habs flag, driving like a true Quebecer , make sure to honk at me!
wow Toronto has an NHL team?
In the AHL ;)
There's a bit more room on the bandwagon after the loss last night, (Sexy Hab and a few others got off) but not much.

Darrien Hatcher on the Hit on Bouillon ... along the lines of "if i had known i was going to get ejected, i would have hit him a lot harder".
that W tomorrow is gonna be so SWEET.
Same old story,..habs win and everyone is on, habs lose and people get off and curse the team.
If the Habs win you watch how many will jump back on and praise the habs.

Well, as I've said in a post from a while back...
I just keep getting better and better seats on this wagon. I may just get to the front yet.

I've always been at the front. Ok, the older generation is in front of me.
"One face-off, one battle, one shift, one period, one game, one series at a time."
"Are the Habs ready to pay the Price?"
That's because our eyes are blurry. I think it's the combination of watching live and remembering the great plays the Habs have made over the years.

I just won't listen to them.
That's why an ignore user option would be good. You publicly state your disdain and loss of faith in the Habs, you would go on my ignore list for the most part.
"One face-off, one battle, one shift, one period, one game, one series at a time."
"Are the Habs ready to pay the Price?"
unlikely, teach. you love to engage people and keep them going. if you practiced your suggested "ignore user" there'd be a lot less fighting. . . although boone wouldn't have hit the 1,000 post mark last night.
Exactly.
You seem to be knocking me a bit. Is it just my imagination Doug?
P.S. I'm one of those asking for an ignore user option.
"One face-off, one battle, one shift, one period, one game, one series at a time."

Yes, I am knocking you a bit, although I think you know I've enjoyed your posts on here.
I'd prefer you didn't personalize things with others. I like your hockey posts. . . I could do without the wounded animal routine.
That's just my two cents. Your mood ebbs and flows like the rest of us so I don't pretend to be immune from the same malady.
