Playoff Pool Update

posted by Chris Aung-Thwin at 15h07 EST on Apr 22

It was a big night for the Habs and a big night for many Inside/Out fantasy teams. Andrew Sharpe, THE CHOSEN ONE, johnolerud9, and TommyB each earned a whopping 15 points from yesterday’s games. PPQB sits alone atop the standings with an impressive 103 points.

Tonight’s match-ups of Calgary vs. San Jose and Washington vs. Philadelphia will finalize the fantasy rosters for Round 2, when the real battle begins.

86 points! And 17 players left for Round 2. Not too far back in the peanut gallery anymore. I should known better than to draft the son of a former Nordique. Stupid Stastny with 1 point.

85 points and I've got all 20 players left.

Have faith birdie.......the Avs are going to knock off Detroit and you will be glad you have Stastny.

Big Bird's picture
Not sure Krob. I've got Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Lidstrom. Only Sakic and Stastny for Colorado.

The Teacher's picture
But most people would have the 3 Detroit players while some (like me) have no Colorado players. My hatred of them blinds me. "One face-off, one battle, one shift, one period, one game, one series at a time." "Are the Habs ready to pay the Price?"

Wow.....you lost noone.......you took all players on the top two seeds in each conference........and they say the regular season doesn't matter.

Kovalev is 6 not 8. Probably more mistakes but thats all I see at a short glance. Drive For 25 Is Alive!

Again, took Kovalev's off someone else's post (I'm too lazy to look up the stats myself!!) Thanks for pointing that out =)

lidstrom only has three points.

Doug: Thanks for your expression of concern the other day! Yes, it's Yeats -- Brian Jones -- don't quite know how to change from Delete to my old monicker, so you can just call me Mr. D. I'm great, never been better. Although like most of the current HIO gang I wanted to tape the exhaust pipe on the way home after Price's "Buckner" in Game 5. To set the record straight, I was never banned, although I was asked cordially to be nice. It was entirely my choice to take my show on the road. To be honest, I just got really bored with the whole thing. The family is also happier to have a father who is slightly more "hands on." I still watch every game religiously, just with a much closer circle of friends. Sort of torn on tonight's Caps/Flyers game. I want the Habs at some time to play the Rangers so I can leach onto a friend who has season tickets. If they go all the way, I plan to be in the building when it happens. I've had 15 years to save up. The planets are falling into alignment though, considering what is going on in the Western Conference. I personally don't want to wait for the Centennial Year. Yea, it would be special, but no more so than a Cup this year. I just have to figure out how I can turn my car over and get arrested in the suburbs of New York. You can get in touch with me at vmbj21@gmail.com. Again, all the best, Brian.

doug's picture
hey brian! great to hear from you. i'll be in contact next time i head to nyc and will contact you off-line. glad to hear all is well; miss you hear but certainly understand your priorities! best wishes, doug

Doug: Well, I guess I'll have to wait until the Conference Final for my free tickets to see the Habs in NYC, although I won't turn down a seat to the Pens/Rangers series. Good hearing from you. Brian

Blaaah no, I tried to hand in a bullshit essay lol. Got my info from others. I plagiarized. See boys and girls, it's not a good idea to copy people's work ;) I probably mixed some numbers up as well. Forwards Alex Kovalev-6 Alexander Ovechkin-7 Evgeni Malkin-7 Jaromir Jagr-8 Sidney Crosby-8 Ryan Getzlaf~ out-5 Henrik Zetterberg-4 Joe Thornton-6 Pavel Datsyuk-5 Tomas Plekanec-4 Teemu Selanne~ out-4 Jonathan Cheechoo-4 Defense Andrei Markov-1 Mark Streit-2 Nicklas Lidstrom-3 Scott Niedermayer ~ out-2 Mike Green-7 Sergei Gonchar-2 Goaltending Carey Price-6 J. Giguere~ out-2 TOTAL 93 With 4 out and Depending on what tonight night, I could potentially have half my team out tonight... so it's been its been a good to crack the top 20 before I spiral to the funny pages.

Coutny... While you have Jagr (8), Plekanec (4), Cheechoo (4), and Giguere (2)... , I have AKost (5), Sykora (3), Backstrom (5) and Hasek (2). Our 'D' is identical.

gabe.'s picture
Quick question...Giguere had an assist in the game the other night. Does that count as a point? Sorry if this was asked in another thread :) My players are: 1. Alex Kovalev 2. Evgeni Malkin 3. Alexander Ovechkin 4. Tomas Plekanec 5. Chris Higgins 6. Sergei Kostitsyn 7. Andrei Kostitsyn 8. Joe Thornton 9. Pavel Datsyuk 10. Henrik Zetterberg 11. Ryan Getzlaf 12. Peter Forsberg 13. Sergei Gonchar 14. Mark Streit 15. Andrei Markov 16. Nicklas Lidstrom 17. Brian Campbell 18. Chris Pronger 19. Carey Price 20. Jean-Sebastien Giguere I think I have 85 points.

24 Cups's picture
gabe - yes it should. Another goalie recieved an assist as well, I blieve it was Turco. The Original 24.4 Cups

gabe.'s picture
Awesome! Thanks.

Gormdog's picture
Won't count... Pretty sure the pool outlined what scores for goalies, and "points" weren't one of em...

24 Cups's picture
You have a point (kinda of:-) but every playoff pool that I have been in has always included assists for goalies in that they are true game summary points just like forwards or defensemen. (I don't have the goalie in question just so you know). Seems fair to me, after all this is just for fun. I guess Chris will have to make a call. The Original 24.4 Cups

ppqb....show us your lineup....anyone else for that matter......show us what you got....this isn't poker...show your cards.

TommyB's picture
krob...I want to see the river before I show my cards.

that's the last thing Jimmy Hoffa ever said!

TommyB's picture
LOL...not "that" river!

The Teacher's picture
LOL funny "One face-off, one battle, one shift, one period, one game, one series at a time." "Are the Habs ready to pay the Price?"

I think I posted mine already but here it is again: 1. A. Kovalev (Mtl) 6 2. A. Kostityn (Mtl) 5 3. P. Sykora (Pit) 3 4. R. Getzlaf (Anah) 5 5. N. Backstrom (Wash) 5 6. A. Ovechkin (Wash) 7 7. S. Crosby (Pit) 8 8. E. Malkin (Pit) 7 9. T. Selanne (Anah) 4 10. P. Datsyuk (Det) 5 11. H. Zetterberg (Det) 4 12. J. Thornton (SJ) 6 Defense 13. A. Markov (Mtl) 1 14. M. Streit (Mtl) 2 15. N. Lidstrom (Det) 3 16. S. Gonchar (Was) 2 17. B Campbell (SJ) 2 18. S. Niedermayer (Anah) 2 Goal 19. C. Price 6 20. D. Hasek 2

I am sitting at 85 pts right now.... things may change very quickly depending on what happens tonight.. I have 2 players on SJ and 3 with the Caps.... no one on Cal and no one with Philly.. I lost 3 when the Ducks drowned.

Those Caps might hang around but it'll mean at least four dates with Lundqvist......sorry about your pool Scotty but I'd rather not see the Rangers lining up across from us. I am going to be a Flyers fan tonight......second time in one year (last game of year against Pittsburgh) .....a record to be sure.

I know, I feel the same way. I would rather meet the Flyers and let Rangers and Pens beat one another up for 6 or 7 games.

wd40's picture
how many people are in this pool?

probably as many as there are RDS viewers :)

PPQB's picture
Tonight's gonna hurt... I'll lose either Brian Campbell and Joe Thornton or Jarome Iginla and Dion Phaneuf, plus I'll lose either Alex Ovechkin or Mike Richards. In the immortal words of Tom Petty, "I can't decide which is worse"

I thought only Kryptonite hurt you?

Vid's picture
Hmmm, I'm not sure I even remember who I put on my roster. If I calculated correctly I have 88 pts. Here's who I think I chose. Not sure why I chose so many players in 3 different eastern conference teams...should've narrowed that down to 2. I banked on anaheim and lost big time so I figure there's little to no chance of my lineup making any headway in the standings. Kovy Pleks A. Kosts Malkin Crosby Datsyuk Zetterberg Gomez Jagr Getzlaf out Selanne out Ovechkin Lidstrom Markov Campbell Gonchar Schneider out Niedermayer out Lunqvist Giguere out

doug's picture
One more comment - it's funny that none of the people (at a quick glance) with 15 points yesterday are in the list of top entries. Suggests to me they're just full of Habs. Hypothetical scenario: 1. AKots (3) 2. Kovalev (2) 3. Skots (2) 4. Streit (1) 5. Pleks (1) 6. Price (2) 7. Koivu (1) 8. Markov (0) 9. Ovechkin (2) - scoring leader 10. Huet (1) - ex-Hab total = 15 points! Totals from those ten players (half your roster) if you had them the whole series: 1. AKots (5) 2. Kovalev (6) 3. Skots (6) 4. Streit (2) 5. Pleks (4) 6. Price (6) 7. Koivu (3) 8. Markov (1) 9. Ovechkin (7) - scoring leader 10. Huet (3) - ex-Hab Total = 43

TommyB's picture
doug, You know what I think is funny? You sound a little bit snippity regarding those who have picked a lot of Habs. This is a Habs forum. Why would it be "funny" that those who gained 15 points last night are "just full of Habs"? Yeah, I have 9 Habs on my roster. To date I have lost 1 player. I could lose one more tonight, or as many as 3 more tonight. Leaving me in decent shape for the next round. Imagine that! With all those Habs! God, someone is liable to accuse me of being a Habs fan!....lmfao BTW...I'm right on your tail with 83 points.

doug's picture
snippity? umm. . . no, i think it's admirable and cool. and i am NEVER snippity. you can't be that unless you're over 80 or under 10 and being accused of that by someone over 80.

TommyB's picture
Sure smelled at least a bit smug, doug. For the record I fall between the ages of 10 and 80.

doug's picture
well when you accuse - wrongly - you insult. when you ask you leave your options open. of course they're mostly habs picks in here. i'm 25% habs. i could have gone more. i certainly don't care. if i wanted to brag, God help me if my HabsInside/Out pool is my first option. if I wanted to chastize, i'd choose someone other than the brothers and sisters I've spent a season with cheering on my favorite team with, and if I didn't adhere to that rule, I certainly wouldn't put down anyone for faith in our team. sorry for the unintended offense.

TommyB's picture
Looks like I just read it in the wrong context....I am the one to apologize.

doug's picture
i was too defensive, tho. . . so. . . still friends? :)

TommyB's picture
yes....we could even play on a line together! ;)

Big Bird's picture
Right in front of you TommyB with 84 points. At least we are in the peanut gallery together! ;-)

TommyB's picture
BB...I see I am in good company, and Scotty right there with us.

I have 85 Big Bird.... you better address me as 'Sir Scotty90' from now on... well at least until the next results are out :)

doug's picture
Here's my team if anyone cares. . . and it's your goal to pull up to a tie for 45th place: Forwards: - Kovalev - Pleks - Crosby - Malkin - Statsny - Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Iginla (potential death) - Thornton (potential death) - Ovechkin (potential - HOPEFUL - death) - i wanna play Philly - Backstrom (potential - HOPEFUL - death) - Getzlaf (dead) Defense: - Lidstrom - Rafalski - Markov - Streit - Gonchar - Campbell (potential death) Goalie - Price - Nabokov (potential death) If SJ and DC win tonight, I've got 18 of 20 alive. If they both lose (which would be my preference as Habs fan) I'd have 14 of 20 left. How do others compare in terms of best and worst case scenarios? The best news - no Flyers OR Rangers in my line-up so zero cognitive dissonance (not that there would have been any) in Round 2!

1. Alex Kovalev 2. Tomas Plekanec 3. Andrei Kostitsyn 4. Sidney Crosby 5. Evgeni Malkin 6. Marian Hossa 7. Peter Forsberg 8. Joe Sakic 9. Paul Stastny 10. Pavel Datsyuk 11. Henrik Zetterberg 12. Jarome Iginla 13. Andrei Markov 14. Mark Streit 15. Sergei Gonchar 16. Nicklas Lidstrom 17. Chris Pronger 18. Dion Phaneuf 19. Carey Price 20. Jose Theodore

24 Cups's picture
kRob - I have to hand it to you - taking 4 Colorado players was a gutsy move. If Calgary wins, lots of guys are going to lose SJ players (including me). In that case, Theodore sort of becomes your Colorado defenseman (so to speak) and you're sitting pretty with 4 each from Detroit and Colorado. This means you are in great shape to pretty well have a minimum of 8 or 9 players in the semi-finals, regardless of what Calgary does against Dallas. Not many guys will be able to say that. (can't see both Montreal and Pittsburgh both losing in the next round) Update: Even with Calgary losing (Roenick of all people!) you are still in good shape. 4 players from the West in the semi and then you only need to have one of Pittsburgh or Montreal to advance to meet your minimum. If they both advance you're in great shape. I lost 3 Ducks and Ovechkin so I'm now basically out of it. Time to prepare for the regular season draft! Let's see, there's Samsonov in Carolina..... The Original 24.4 Cups

doug's picture
what a team. if calgary wins tonight you're 20/20. WOW!

Pronger is out so it would be 19/20.... not bad at all!

Thanks Chris! 1. www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat 2. Josh Gorges on Montreal's attack: "They're comin', they're comin' and they keep comin'. Just line after line, wave after wave..."

Hey Chris I know you have taken on quite a bit with this pool but if you could cut and paste just one of the leaders pools (or the leader) per update it would give us an idea as to who has what and what we are chasing. I know pools are a lot of work and I understand if that's a pain...just an idea.

If the Flames advance I bet I am looking pretty good but if they go down....I may be in trouble. I already lost Pronger....I need my Phaneuf and Iginla. I bet a lot of people would lose some Sharks too. Go Flames Go.
