The Hamilton Spec.com reports that Ben Maxwell will also join the 6 Bulldogs for the Habs playoffs. Maxwell was picked 49th overall in 2006 one spot before Bruin's Milan Lucic.

So im guessing the bulldogs didnt make the playoffs? that sucks but considering how many have made the move up to the bigs its not all that surprising

I feel bad for Yann Danis. At one point his career was poised to take of in Montreal but he has been very unlucky. First Huet then Halak now Price. Hope he gets traded so he could get another chance to be a starter.

I'm kinda surprised that Corey Locke wasn't included in the callups. Anyone have an idea why?

Corey Locke is set to become a free agent this summer, and is expected to leave the organization. That's why only players who have a future in Montreal were called up (see Carle, D'Ags, Valentenko, Chip). Danis was called up, even if he doesn't figure in the team's plans, simply as an emergency goaltender. That way, if one of our goalies get injured (knock on wood), we will have another one who will have played with the team, and not one who hasn't played/practiced in a month and spent the last month in Mexico.

I'm pretty sure Locke is a RFA, thus all we have to do is offer him a qualifying offer and we retain his rights.

I'll wager that Chipchura will make the team next camp. I thought that he was good enough to do it this year, but perhaps needed to ripen on the vine just a tad more.

I haven't heard much about Valentenko... he was voted the Bulldogs rookie of the year, but other than that all I've heard was the old cliché "he's progressing nicely"....

this is pretty common for the playoffs to call up these guys. the idea is that they get acclimatised to playoff hockey and all that goes with it. Usually these guys are referred to as the "black aces" by most teams. they are here to work hard in practice with the team. Travel with the team usually and learn what playoff hockey is. sometimes one or two get lucky and because of injuries they get a chance to play in the playoffs. It also pushes the guys who are playing in practice, to maintain their level of work or they might just lose their spot. Not every team does this, but back in the day it was very common. Bob Gainey, being and old-school kind of guy and looking to the future realizes the importance of these young guys who will be future Habs. These lessons they learn here, will help make us even better in the future. Well done BG!

Go Habs Go!!!

Exactly.

Valentenko 102mph shot and 1 goal....that is a bit confusing....with a rocket like that he should be using it on the pp and you would figure he'd score more than once. 102 mph ....that is up there with Chara and Souray.....one goal....maybe he can't hit he net.....where are our resident Bulldog experts to clarify this for me. I knew Valentenko could hit and was mean but 102mph shot is very impressive and scary for boththe opposition and Lats, Higgy, Andre K and anyone else who would have to stand in front of the net ona pp.

I didn't know that either - must make people think twice before diving to block the shot... Maybe if Streit wants too much coin next year, we won't have too far to look for another potent PP blueliner.

is there a roster freeze coming up or something or they just want to have bodies available in case of a freak injury spree...

or maybe they got a deal (fly 5 get 1 free) ;)

A really good chance to see how these guys measure up in practice to the NHL roster.

Salaries arent paid in the playoffs so all it costs is per diems.

None of these guys will see ice time, except maybe Chipper. But not very likely.

You're right - so smart of Gainey... And when else was Carbo going to see them play? Plus, the Dogs get a taste of Bell Centre insanity. Good move all around.

I think Ian G.Cobb will be a bit disappointed that Corey Locke is not part of the six pack.

from what I read yesterday, he was part of the call up, looks like the called up Trotter instead.

Locke's an RFA this year so maybe his days are numbered with Maxwell and White having good junior years.

Corey Locke is a very good minor leaguer.

My feeling is he doesnt have the tools necessary to ever make the jump.

Too small, no grit, less than scintillating shot...

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times, and I'll say it again: poor Yann Danis. He won hearts early in 2005-06, never to be seen again in the bleu, blanc, et rouge.

Makes sense when you're only having 6 guys on the ice for practices at times.

Love the new photo, Teach!
Also optional was a horse's ass.

Thanks :)

I didn't want to take away from Moey's glory, so the babboon will do.

It's been said here before: God help us if Yann Danis even gets fitted for a Habs jersey this palyoff season.
