Streit has not been playing great so having him out isn't necessarily bad for the team. It's not like our PP was working well with him anyway so maybe this will force us to be less predictable. To be honest there are quite a few guys who could blast it from the right point like Markov or Hamrlik.
Maybe we'll see one timers from the left point with Brisebois. If Smolinski or Guillaume are on the PP, maybe we should try just having either one simply stand in front of Thomas the whole time. Never hurts to screen the goaltender and blast shots from the point.
Hopefully he gets some rest and heals up well and quick.
I hope Carbonneau doesn't bench Ryder again unless he actually plays badly. So far he has not.

Now that our young guns have four playoff games under their belts, I expect them to get back their confidence and play like the regular season. Kovy will trust his teammates more and our 1st line will dominate again.

Hats off to Claude Julien and the Bruins. Theve played 3 games that could have gone either way. They have played the boring trap which was probably the only way that they could compete (unlike a certain Ontario team).
Their backs are up against the wall again tonight but I expect the Canadiens to come out "FLYING" Montreal 4-1
Then Maybe Saku will play the next round and I can get some points in the pool

So it's now legal to wave your stick/hand in front of a goalie's face as long as you are not facing him?
That sounds incredibly stupid and potentially dangerous. It makes it even more possible for the player to hit the goalie's head with a stick. Aren't we trying to avoid stick related injuries?
Talk about an unnecessary amendment, I thought the original call on Avery was fine, no penalty but a misconduct. If a penalty had been called that would've been fine too. A better justification than I think the one we've heard that what Avery did was inciting a penalty would've been the potential for injury having somebody's stick near someone else' face constantly.
Submitted by 1010 on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 17:45.
A two minute penalty is proper punishment for something that is getting far too much press. I'm still surprised that the cross check to Parises' teeth, along with the other two mentioned incidences aren't receiving more attention from the league. It appears the league is not going to act unless a player is carried off on a board so why is Avery getting all this attention.
GO HABS.
Submitted by 1010 on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 14:19.
Bettman is so busy with the Avery 'situation' he totally missed a flying elbow by a Red Wing, a cross check by a Ranger knocking out two front teeth and a player on the Wild leaving his feet to drill another player, from behind, into the boards. The situtaion with Avery is about the league's image. The other three are about the player's well being. Gives you that warm, fuzzy feeling knowing what Gary's priorities are. Doesn't it?
GO HABS.

Submitted by Habs_4_Me on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 14:15.
LBC I have to respectfully disagree. I am glad that the NHL is trying to preserve at least some of the integrity of the game of hockey that we grew up with. Of course there will be 'tweaks' here and there, but I think most hockey fans can do without the circus clown antics of Avery performed anymore by anyone and the NHL had to change the rule right away.
GO HABS GO!!!

Agree with you here -- I'm glad the league intervened immediately. Basically, all they did was clarify a rule anyways and you'll see that nobody is going to try anything of the sort again. Otherwise, I can guarantee there will be a penalty if anything fishy is going on as the referee's in charge of the game will probably err on the side of caution and call it right then and there.

JULIENS AUDIO
I hadn't noticed this one...boy, they are gunning for PRICEY....
Julien said they are going to do whatever it takes to get into Prices head, that they have done everything but score, and that is the difference (usually is!) they are going to CRASH THE NET.
they may even try an AVERY on Price...
well, one thing about Price, he is one tough kid....for the first time in a long time we've had a goalie as tough as ROY...Theo, thibolt all weaklings...in fact we haven't really seen Price get mad yet...
man this team has levels that haven't even been uncovered yet.

Submitted by Chuck V. on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 13:25.
The thing that impresses me most about Price is his ability to completely block out everything and everyone around him. Every time there's a scrum around the net, he just calmly gets up and skates away and lets his teammates take care of the rough stuff. It's incredible to me that a guy can just be so composed at all times, even during the playoffs

Submitted by HAB-PROFESSOR on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 13:35.
he is a PRO - everyone finally admits it...EVERYONE.
Gainey new that years ago...Brilliant Hockey Mind.
your right, he keeps focused, and most importantly we have a team that can take care of business, the rough stuff after the whistle...not fighting, but all the stuff before fighting...and between CUBE/KOMI/KOSTOP/BEGIN, we've got the fighting taken care of if necessary. (unless its a Larouque type).

Lats is too slow with his clippers and is only playing this role because he is French Canadian. His clipping is First Choice calibre at best....he will never play at the clip that Carbo and crew think he will. Greg Stewart on the other hand is fast, furious and eager.....he may not get style points but he is not afraid to get his hands greasy. This is typical Montreal Canadien culturalism once again showing it's ugly head(s).

AKost says he hates short hair and has always had long hair, guy is funny!

you know, must people think its just a joke, or brush it off (no pun intended!) but its really evidence of a BROTHERHOOD. and that is what wins STANLEY CUPS.
even the Russian Mafia joke, well it shows there is an understanding and acceptance in the room about the "russians" and its a good one.
I firmly believe that the 'russian element' can thrive in Montreal unlike any other city in the NHL...Montreal is cosmopolitan, has European culture, home cooking, warm smiles and the best girls in Canada! ...and that is why the Great Russians have always been drawn to the Habs organization...its a feather in our cap... and its still to be discovered, look at Kovy's Dad, he didn't want to come over, his last experience in New York was a disaster.
but now he LOVES MONTREAL....
long live our Russian Advantage...
and down with Ovechkin...he used us as bait then signed in the murder capital of the world...SHAME.... he could have joined a legendary team with his brethren....but thats another story...

What a nice problem : Streit's ailing, so they've got a Michael Ryder to step in.
GO HABS.

Submitted by cautiousoptimist on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 10:54.
Nothing against Streit, but he's been average at best lately, with flashes of awfulness. And his main strength is supposed to be the PP, which has been shut down. When Ryder plays like Streit has lately, he sits three in a row...

I hope Ryder's head is in the right place too. But unlike the other players, if he makes one mistake, he'll be benched. And if the Canadiens lose (god forbid) and even if Ryder has nothing to do with it, unlike other players, he'll be back in the press box. I'm sure he knows this, but being the team player that he is, he would never utter it. So Michael, try not to hold your stick too tight, and if you do, we'll understand, even if Carbo doesn't.

Submitted by HAB-PROFESSOR on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 10:35.
wow...a bit of a surprise here, sure its been a grind, maybe Streit needs the rest, he is a technical player and will be very important against the Rangers or Philly/Wsh..
I'm happy with this move - puts power in the lineup when we need it most..the pivotal clinch game, and you know Boston will be swinging...Julien has them playing to their strengths, ferocious forechecking, finish your hits, and intimidate at every possible chance.
But Carb has our Boys tuned like a violin...man it keeps getting better!

Streit really is a PP specialist in my mind, don't know if I care for this one too much. Go Habs

Submitted by kevrob on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 10:43.
It has become abundantly clear that the PP is not going to win the game for the Habs tonight. We do need a bit more fire in the game tonight and Streit has been sadly lacking in that department. Let him sit and, assuming we win tonight, let him work his PP magic in the next series.

Submitted by the real vinnydj on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 12:20.
Now that I have learned he is in fact injured, I see why he is not playing. You don't sit one of your top point producers unless he is not doing what the coaches are telling him.
Carbo "Streit Left Wing"
Streit "Yes coach"
Carbo "Streit your on D'
Streit "Yes coach"
Carbo "Streit back up front"
Streit "Yes coach"
Carbo "Streit our PP isn't workin so instead of trying to work the kinks out now we are going to sit you out. Thanks for being so understanding about this"
Streit "WTF?"

Submitted by West Island Hab Fan on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 10:42.
Streit apparently didn't skate with the team - so he may have a knock. I think it's better to rest him so he'll be ready for next the series.

So who ends up on the first pp unit ....Briser, Hammer or Sergei.....my gut says it ends up being Brisebois on the left point....that would take Markov out of his comfortable spot on the pp though so U guess we will see but it would mean that either Markov or Briser would have the one timer from the point when passing between each other.
Submitted by ebk on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 10:40.
Brisebois, easily the best PP man the have after Streit and Markov.

Submitted by Drive_For_25 on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 10:35.
If Sergei handles the puck good first couple of shifts, unlike last game, I say he should be first unit point man and save Breezer and Hammer for second.
Submitted by krob1000 on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 10:46.
Well to be honest I can see any if not all of the three scenarios happening. Sergei would have to shoot though if they put him there. I guess it depends on what (if any) adjustments we have in mind for the pp. I half expect some different plays and this may just force our hand. Sergei would also be valuable as a guy capable of carrying the line and establishing control so he does have that advantage on both Hammer and Briser as Streit often plays that role. Briser though could spread things out though because we never have a one timer from the left point and we would with Breezer and it may offset the Bruins tactic of overplaying our right side (right, left depends which way youlook at it but you knwo what I mean...where Kovy sets up). The more I think about it the more I like Briser....he spreads things out and opens up the other side for Kovy and crew. Teams had a fraction of a second longer swinging to Markov's side because he had to stop the puck.....they won't have that with BRiser. Go with Briser.....here's to hoping.

Submitted by HAB-PROFESSOR on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 10:52.
Mr Patrice on the 2nd unit only... we've recently witnessed 2 very good shots from him and he put in the golden goal...but he's also all to often hit shin pads with his shot and then been caught and not fast enough or strong enough to get back...you don't want Mr Patrice as your last man...he is a good closer...lets not get carried away now, he is not Souray or Streit.
Markov Kostyjr or Plek - first wave
Patrice Komi - second wave
Submitted by krob1000 on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 11:01.
I think more so than anyone Briser does get pucks through......you are right that if he gets caught he is done and Sturm (always seems to be him) is off to the races......fortunately Price has made him his b&*ch on breakaways thus far. It will be fun to see which route he goes and I am happy with any of them but I think you are forgetting about Hammer and he will likely find time as well on the 2nd unit. Pleks is an interesting option and I have not even considered that one but he is smart enough that it makes sense and he can fire a puck hard and accurately. Interesting...Pleks on the point......I need more time to digest that one. I am still guessing Briser though.....with my next guess being Sergei.

Submitted by HAB-PROFESSOR on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 11:14.
pleks came to mind because I've seen him sometimes picking up the trash and finding himself up there... I like him there because of his speed and he'll be able to keep pace in a foot race if something goes wrong, whereas Patrice and Hammr are done.
really, its Kovy that controls the pp, its funny how everyone just delivers the puck to him at the side boards, or sometimes Kovy skates over and they leave it to him and skate away!... reminds me of a fellow called Ribs whose only purpose was to give Kovy the puck (and it worked)..now that was Kovy's Bit$ch!

Streit out, Ryder in. The Habs Do-Si-Do.
Seems a few of the Habs Youngsters(tm) have become the latest victims of playoff hair attacks.
Price became the latest youngster on the Habs to get a short version of the Mohawk cut for the NHL playoffs. Maxim Lapierre was freshly shorn with the same cut. Both say that they like their new coifs.
"When it comes to team stuff, I'm pretty easy going," said the 20-year-old Price. "Guillaume did it.
"I think he's going to start making some money off it during the summer -- become a hairdresser. He's OK. I wouldn't pay him for it, but he's not bad."
wonder what the business will call itself? I'm favoring "Guillaume's House of Hair"...
