A look back at Game 2

It was a close call on Saturday night, but Alex Kovalev made up for a costly penalty with the overtime winner as the Canadiens grabbed a 2-0 lead in their first-round playoff series against the Bruins.

But there will be little time to celebrate as the teams go back at it in Game 3 in Boston on Sunday night, with the Habs looking to continue their dominance over the Bruins this season.

Think back to 2002 and 2004, when the Bruins led the conference and the Habs just managed to make it into the 8th spot. No one thought the Habs had a chance, and what do you know? We wiped the B's out BOTH times, including erasing a 3-1 deficit. Stats mean nothing in the playoffs. What you did in the regular season no longer has any relevance. It's a whole new game and the best team wins. At this point, it's not about who looks better on paper. It's who wants it more. Thursday night, it was all about the Habs. Last night, it was all about the Bruins, and they fought hard. Did they deserve the win? Probably. But I love my Habs, so I'm not going to complain about our OT win. Tonight ... who knows? Lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place - the Habs were lucky they got the win last night, but if they play like they did yesterday, they may not be so lucky again. If everyone shows up tonight and fights hard for 60 minutes, I can safely predict a Habs victory. Go Habs!

After stealing an overtime victory, travelling to Boston, and lacing up for tonight's game, all in the span of 24 hours, they've got to be exhausted. I have no problem with any of the guys on the ice, or with their play, but I gotta think a fresh O'Byrne is better than an tired Brisebois. Our depth will be huge in these playoffs, allowing us to swap out hurting or exhausted players for a game or two at a time, but what's the point of depth if you don't use it? 1. www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat 2. or maybe it will be like the back to back games we had against the flyers when price stole the first game and getting his first career shutout 1-0. Then on the sunday night we went into their building and destroyed them. I'm just hoping for the same result against the bruins.

I'm not sure what you mean by this comment. Cherry was predicting a Boston win over Montreal in this series. Red Fisher was griping that everyone is saying Monteal will have no problem with Boston but in the same breath (in a preseries article) predicted Habs win in 5 games. I don't see or hear anyone taking the Bruins lightly. You'd have to be as delusional as Cherry to pick Boston, but most here are saying Montreal must play well and not take the Bruins lightly if they are going to win. I don't agree with Fisher, but I don't think he is delusional like Cherry.

Said the same thing to myself last night. We're missing a great deal of clutch experience in Saku. If this series goes to Saturday he should be back. If it goes quickly he'll be back for the next round, just in time for the Rangers.

Since the reffing can vary on any given Sunday, gotta admit; I got no problem with it. It could go either way anytime so I just got used to the excitement of the Imponderable, good or bad. Case in point, First game of season before this one, against Buffalo, remember? End of the game, few minutes left, Brière gets called. Ref's arm went up! He pointed at Brière! Brière goes up to him and starts yapping. Yapping and yapping. And talks his way out of it! Remember? Very next play, he wins the faceoff, goes down the ice, and scores the dang winner! 'Member that garbage? I could have cheerfully gone down there with an Armalite Mac 12 (or whatever) and pumped round after round into the abhorrence of it all. But it wouldn't have changed anything. Can't beat'em? Join'em. LOVE the Imponderable. Cuz sometimes you can eat the bar after it eats you. Too bad, Bruiners! Hey, maybe next time. Haw-haw-haw!

I'm a Montreal living in Boston. I watch the games on NESN the Boston sports channel. The play by play announcer(Jack Edwards) has made a lot of snide remarks aimed at the Team and at Montrealers. But last night he made a comment that does not sit well. At the end of the post game comments he said " In Montreal, they make a big vat of Kool-aide and everybody drinks from it. Just another Saturday night in Montreal". This was said on AIR .

In answer to the questions below, the comment means two things to me. First, there is infamous Jonetown suicide in Guyana in 1978. The American cult, led by Jones, was well known for its mind control techniques that were so effective that 913 followers were convinced to commit suicide by drinking purple grape juice, often described as koolaid. I believe this was the comparison that the Boston sports announcer was going for. Montreal fans are so caught up in the cult that they are not capable of independent thought, and are so devoted that they are completely irrational and are so extreme that they would commit suicide for the team. The second metaphor that comes to mind for me is the book title, written by Tom Wolfe, "The Electric Koolaid Acid Test" about the adventures of hippie Ken Kesey and his group of merry pranksters as they travelled American and dropped acid and other psychodelic drugs. Either way, the comment brings to mind a group of people who are quite divorced from reality.

definately a sickening display and pretty much has been throughout the playoffs. Hurts a little more when they go against the habs but that's a given. refs should never decide the fate of a playoff game.

Red and Don are both becoming a little unstable in their senior years. Also, old guys really seem to like the Bruins. Red: before the series there is talk that it could be a Habs sweep. And now that the Habs are up two games to none this is somehow less likely??
