Price gets start vs. Bruins on Thursday

posted by Dave Stubbs at 16h09 EST on Mar 19

To the surprise of no one, goaltender Carey Price returns to the Montreal net tomorrow night in Boston vs. the Bruins. The rookie has won all three of his starts vs. the Bruins this season, with a 2.33 goals-against average.

Any other lineup changes for the game will be announced by coach Guy Carbonneau after the morning skate in Boston. But speculation is that Steve Bégin, who has missed 11 of the past 13 games, will be back, having nursed a groin injury back to health.

The Canadiens have beaten the Bruins nine straight times, and would love to make that 11 by Saturday evening, facing their Original Six rival back at the Bell Centre that night.

I predict that players will change tonight. Especially the 4th line... I believe the Koivu line and Kovy line will be intact. I do hope he does not change the Higgins line... They have played very well and they are the reason we managed a point last game. I would sit, Smokes, Kostopoulos and put in Begin and Lapierre... We need the intensity and hopefully they will show it tonight...

Shiloh's picture
I hope Breezer sits and O'Byrne plays. O'Byrne has to get ready for the playoffs. All of our young guys have to see playoff action.

The fact that there is no decision on that yet makes me uneasy. It should be an automatic - Price in, OB in! So is it confirmed that Begin will play tomorrow? Heard some rumblings about it on RDS tonight.

Steve Ludzig just said the Habs will win the cup!

Interesting article on the G&M web site titled "The secret of Habs success". Finally some stuff about the Habs, I guess they finally have given up on the Laffs. http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20080319.wspthabsnew19/GS...

I agree with everything he said except Guillaume Latendresse. The "Chosen One" has come. His name is "CAREY PRICE".

TSN couldn't resist tonight and did some stupid segment on the leafs to let viewers believe they still have a chance of making it. What a joke.

Argh!!! Both devils and rangers get points. Hate these 3 point games. Wonder what the standings would have been now if it were for the point for the loss in OT or SO. Buffalo too mounted a monster comeback against the Lightning. Everybody's playing desperate hockey. Wouldn't hurt habs to play with a bit of desperation too...

Shiloh's picture
Timo - I love the three-point games. If teams are tied after 60 minutes they should get the point they've earned.

PHOTOS I don't know how many check out the photo section, but i'd almost say its the BEST PART OF THIS SITE...the REAL DEAL. especially after they started adding PRACTICE SHOTS...they are GREAT, you can really read into whats happening in the players eyes, and its 99.9% POSITIVE. actually last week when the ISLES where in town the photographer caught a great shot of the ISLE players watching the HABS practice...that was deep, and clandestine like... and...there is a "great" shot of BREEZE in top form...see if you can find it. --------- 1. WE ARE DEAD MEAT WITHOUT OUR OWN POLICING 1. Feb 19, 2008 - History was made. 2. Thank GOD we have Alex Kovalev.....at his PRIME 3. The BELL CENTRE should be rebuilt to sit 80,000 fans 4. We will win the CUP

Thanks Professor. I always used to check the photos, but have not lately. I did not know about the Practice Shots, and am glad you told us. I agree with you that they are GREAT!

moser17's picture
Yah, has anyone seen that shot of them getting on the bus with their gear on? What's that about?

The Teacher's picture
They were probably practicing in Verdun or Brossard or something like that. "Are the Habs ready to pay the Price?"

some really great shots. _______________________ make your opinion count @ http://hiopolls.blogspot.com

I gotta say, I didn't even know it was there, and I've been posting here for four or five months. But you're right, they're great! www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat

Wow, you're right. I never noticed the photo's section, too quick to jump to the comments. Really like the Carbo pic from the practice.

The Teacher's picture
Disgusting. now both NJ and the NYR get a point. "Are the Habs ready to pay the Price?"

Devils are now 0-6 against the Rangers this year. yeah, sucks about that point. _______________________ make your opinion count @ http://hiopolls.blogspot.com

Montreal had it's chance to take a commanding lead a top the the Eastern Conference. Blowing sure leads. Not beating last place teams for a sure 2 points. Hell, Montreal blew enough games to be ahead of the Wings. What happens now happens. Anyway, Lets come out strong and play 60 mins for a change. Go Pricy. You are our #1 Man. OH. For God's sakes grow some B@LLS D-men and clear the trash from the front of the net for Price. The "Chosen One" has come. His name is "CAREY PRICE".

D-man's picture
This is seriously a high octane game. Wow, what a GAME

Treefingers's picture
Playing (and winning) a home-and-home with Boston is exactly the psychological uplift the Habs need as the season closes out...on the other hand, losing both games would be the worst thing possible for morale, but I think they'll come out fast and furious and finish 8-0 on the season series.

Chorske's picture
Is that Dave Gilmour in a habs sweatshirt? NICE.

rangers losing 1-0 and i think tampa is beating buffalo 1-0

D-man's picture
Notice the extreme intensity in the rangers/devils game. Habs are nowhere near this degree of intensity. It sucks cuz we looked like this about 3 weeks ago, but now, not at all.

WestHab's picture
We missed Steve badly against St. louis and the Islanders. he has the speed and the work ethic. Nobody on the current team wears the CH more proudly. His only problem is that he'll get himself injured time and time again cause of his grit and never quit. In Bob we Trust.

tony d's picture
just an observation and hopefully some of the Habs will read this (yeah right, and I'm winning the next 6/49 jackpot) you guys have to stop the tentative starts like you've been doing the last few games...you have to come out banging and smacking and when they get up, ask them if they want a fresh one. Set the tone and let them know who the alpha dogs are... this wait and see crap and catching up in the 3rd has to stop now! Ok I've said enough, hopefully Steve Begin will be rested and pissed and he can raise the bar a bit. Let's keep the opponents on a short leash boys. Go Habs Go

TripleX's picture
Cannot agree more! I am watching the NJ vs NYR game on TSN and what a revelation. These teams are holding nothing back, very intense and physical. For those people who think the Habs can coast into the playoffs, WAKEUP. All the other contenders are playing playoff hockey NOW, they know you just can't turn it on at will. The Habs have to play with some emotion and establish that they BELONG in the top echelon of teams. Right now I see a team playing soft and unwilling to pay the price to win games. If we go into NJ, NY or Washington with the present attitude we will be destroyed. PASSION is what the Habs lack, how a team can play before 21,000 frenzied fans and not show up is beyond me.

WindsorHab-10's picture
We have 8 games left with 4 teams, Boston, Ottawa, Buffalo & Toronto. The last good & complete game we participated in was against the Devils. Playing 20-30 minute games will not get us any victories down the stretch as we are facing teams trying to secure playoff positions as well as division and conference standings. We must treat each game as a 7th game of a series.

Ian G Cobb's picture
tony d---- I am with you on a lot more intensity from the get go. The one thing that concerns me is exactly that. I love the finesse speed game, with solid shoulder and hip checks. But you are correct, they don't come out hitting with there speed game.

HAB-PROFESSOR's picture
BREEZE: HE MUST PLAY. I'm going to sit at the other end of the table by myself and make a suggestion that THE BREEZE MUST PLAY the rest of the regular season. and this is why: He needs to be given the chance to prove that he can contribute better or equal to the other 6 defensmen we currently have. He has not in my opinion proven this yet, but it must be proven one way or the other, beyond a shadow of a doubt so that we can put the issue to rest going into the playoffs. That said, although it is painful at times, he has shown some consistency in not being 100% in error...maybe in the 90%'s but his odd outlet passes that are made without pressure, and his erratic knucklers from the point will at 1-1,000,0000 deflect into the net at times. As well he did lay an awesome hipcheck about a month ago... anyway...If he cannot prove this MANDATORY factor then he MUST DRESS IN A SUIT as SAVARD did in 1993. Our objective remains to win the cup in 2009 - therefore the experience of a playoff run will best be used upon an OBRYNE who has a career to gain, over BREEZE who has everything to lose. Other than Carbonneau I don't think there is anybody who has a shade of a doubt about Brisbois. I think he has proved pretty well that he CANNOT contribute on par with the other 6 dmen. When good night for him is the night he was not visible tells a lot. I hope that Habs will put an end to this saga at the year end. I really do not see any reason for resigning him to another year. Perhaps he can join the Dawgs in some coaching capacity. I like your thinking though... very original :)

i like that clarkson kid from new jersey, one and a half minute fight with avery

i have a question for you. I remember you saying that you are in sudbury, i moved from sudbury 12 years ago. I think you went to school with my older brother. I remember you being a high school and college hockey star. Didn't you played in the old IHL or something, with the Detroit Vipers?

TommyB's picture
Ditto, showey....and looked to me that Avery was just hanging on waiting for the linesmen to step in and put an end to it.

Ian G Cobb's picture
Showey-- David Clarkson played for the Belleville Bulls and was a dedicated hard working kid. He was a good, not great at most of his game. Shear determination over natural ability. I really did not think that he would make the show. But he has earned every break he has got.

HAB-PROFESSOR's picture
I'm seeing it differently...its not HOW WE PLAY, but WHO WE PLAY. when we play PHYSICAL TEAMS we are DEAD MEAT. and don't tell me Philly is physical, they are not. DAL/SJ/ANA/STL...they are physical. OTT can be when they have everyone in the lineup, other than OTT we should come out of the east which would be a GREAT accomplishment, one year earlier than expected. but we do not have the GRIT and TOUGHNESS to beat the west. Its not just a fighter that we need, but 2-3 players who are feared. (Neil types) --------- 1.

Habs Prof, I agree with you about the toughness of the Habs. But in all fairness to the team how many team out in the east can compete with Anaheim and San Jose? This year the cup will stay in the west again, I have no doubt. (Habs next year) It was painfully obvious during the west coast swing that Habs need toughness... not necessarily goons (wouldn't hurt) but just tough guys who can hit, take hits and play mean and nasty when the game calls for it.

HAB-PROFESSOR's picture
your right....and thats why OTT picked up the players they did at the deadline..because they've been to the big dance. --------- 1. WE ARE DEAD MEAT WITHOUT OUR OWN POLICING 1. If we bag the Bruins in the 'home and home', we will help kick open the final two spots (7&8). Heck by the 28th of March the bottom three seeds could change altogether. We need Kovy and his line to go back to the basics to find success again, it would be killer to have three potent threats to attack the opposition in the final 8 and beyond. Should be an interesting ride down the stretch, and i'm loving every minute of it and wouldn't change it for the world. We need little lessons every now and then to constantly improve. Believe it or not...we have improved! GO HABS GO!!!!

The Teacher's picture
All of those clamouring for a goon. Which one of these would fit with the Habs? Wade Belak of the Florida Panthers will be an unrestricted free agent. Ditto for Jody Shelley of the San Jose Sharks, Darcy Hordichuk (Nashville Predators) and Todd Fedoruk (Minnesota Wild). "Are the Habs ready to pay the Price?" "Halak Price! Do you?"

Rugger's picture
It has been hard enough to fit the new kids in this year, how do add a goon next year. Unless he sits in the box 9 out of 10 games, in which case, why bother.

HAB-PROFESSOR's picture
why bother? because there are certain games where you need him to dress. look at DANDY, he has been basically sitting 9 of 10. but to the TEACH...I am not saying we need a GOON=FIGHTER...BUT A GOON=GRIT player maybe 2 or 3...and they may be in the system...one is a defenseman. then the cup is ours. Bob Gainey was no goon but not to many others wanted any part of his grit, when he was on the ice he made time and space for himself and if he hit you, you stayed hit. I sure would like to find another one like him for us somewhere. As far as getting a scraper to be left behind in the faster NHL, for get it.

might not have agreed with all you said today my friend but this post we are 100% in agreement about.

showey47's picture
agreed, I don't see the point on wasting cap space on a guy who will play 3 mins a game. We are a team that rolls 4 lines so this type of player does not fit into our system. Unless someone double shifts on the 4th line and only send the "goon"out when needed.

The Teacher's picture
I know we don't need a goon. I just want to hear from people who DO think we need one. I know they are here somewhere. "Are the Habs ready to pay the Price?" "Halak Price! Do you?"

showey47's picture
If thats the case i'm surprised you don't have laraque on your list, he is a ufa this summer and the most likely target if gainey was gonna go after one.

The Teacher's picture
That's because everyone would say Laraque. let's just say he stays with Pittsburgh. "Are the Habs ready to pay the Price?" "Halak Price! Do you?"

showey47's picture
having begin back in the lineup is a step in the right direction. If we dress begin, laps and obyrne and take out breezer, smokes and t.k.(i like this guy but its a numbers thing). We will win at least 5 of our last 8.

Rugger's picture
Two games of interest tonight - Buff/TB and NYR/NJD. Go Tampa & Rangers

Hopefully smolinski doesn't play either. What a bum. He doesn't even hustle back to try and brake up a 2 on 1. Basically he's out there to play d but he's way to lazy for that.

So is brisbois playing or carbo will come to his senses and replace him with OB? No surprise in case of Price. They need to start playing playing from the very beginning and not wait until the 3rd.

slamtherimtim's picture
your damn right , brisbois suks and why they play him before OB or even some hamilton cat is beyond me , cant you see it , game 7 of the final and guess who screws up to lose the game on home ice breeze-by , we will never win a cup with him in the lineup , i cant even believe we pay him a salary , i read a post that stated he should help coach and lead the younger players , WHATEVER,

Propwash's picture
Like I said in another post, I hope we beat up Boston like they owe us money

N.B.habs fan's picture
If they play like they did last night, Boston will have field day with them. They need to stay out of the box,it burns my butt that at this time of the year when they need to stay on top of their game to stay the hell out of the box. We all hate to see Brezzer out on the ice,but thank God he dosen't play that often. I find Koui hogs the puck and gives it away too much and dosent finish his play,I hope he watches replays and sees that he has to improve from here on out,..my 2 cents ..

wd40's picture
17 days, 8 games, 4 eastern rivals. notwithstanding a playoff spot pretty much guaranteed, i have a feeling we're going to see the Habs kick it into a different gear. _______________________ make your opinion count @ http://hiopolls.blogspot.com

I hope we are past taking teams lightly such as the Islanders and the Blues. Despite our record against Boston they are going to come at us like we have never seen. Carbo needs to get this team up or else we will be on our heels come Sunday. These games are a must for us. I think the Pleks line needs to stop with the fancy stick handling and get some shots on net. To me they have picked up some bad habits in the last two games. I think Smoks needs to sit. He did not help on the Blues first goal, besides he is just plain slow. mjames

coutNY's picture
Seems like the whole 1st line has picked up the fancy stick habit. Holding onto the puck too long and forcing plays. Frustrations of not dominating seems to have dwindle their patients.

He certainly did help on the Blues first goal. He set it up.

This could be the home and home that puts the dagger in the Bruins heart, the same way we put the dagger in the Leafs heart last year.

Ummm...it was the leafs that put a dagger through the Habs' playoff hopes last year. We blew a third period lead and dropped out of playoff contention.

This decision was predictable. It will be Men against Boys Unless Tiny Tim Thomas steals 4 points. Go Habs

I dunno... Timmy has been letting lots of goals in these days!

Thats whats weird , when he was not letting goals in is when we were putting up a bunch of points against him... well him and AULD and Fernadez... I guess it doesn't matter...

Can't take the Bs too lightly but it would be fun to slap them around 8-0 in the season series.

or even sweeter 12-0 on the year :)

Wins would ease the worried minds... looking to leap a top the Eastern standings. Intra-division battles will make things interesting each night in the race.
