Here is this week's One-on-One from The Gazette's Kevin Mio.Â
Maxim Lapierre made an immediate impression when he was called up from the American Hockey League's Hamilton Bulldogs last season with his gritty, in-your-face style. He played in 46 games during the 2006-07 season, scoring seven goals and adding six assists, and it looked as if he was in the NHL to stay.
But the St. Léonard native received a shock when he was one of the final cuts during training camp in September and was forced to start the season in the AHL.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound centre, selected by the Canadiens in
the second round (61st overall) of the 2003 NHL entry draft, took the demotion in stride and played 19 games on the farm before being recalled midway through the season.
Before Saturday night's game, Lapierre had seven goals and seven assists in 45 games to go along with 49 penalty minutes and a plus-5.
