Habs recall Halak to replace ill Price

Cautiousoptimist, I try not to be too sensitive to the negative posts on here and TRY not to be too argumentative, but you just summed up why it is so difficult at times. Of course there are going to be people here who dislike a player or coach and want to tell us all about it, but when it gets to the point of humiliating them or wishing bad luck or ill on them it just gets silly.

I dont think it would be THAT bad if he were in Hamilton, I have tickets to see the Bulldogs vs Marlies in T.O in Feburary, I would'nt mind seeing him play again. (went to leafs vs habs earlier in the year)

That's a very tempting one. I doubt Washington would go for it - and I suspect Montreal would. But if it was me, I wouldn't. The reason: I think either Plekanic or Komiserik could be an all-star... they're two of my 4-5 players on the team... and even though Halak is expendable, he's worth something in another trade. Sadly I think Washington can get more. They've only got the one star - arguably one of the top three in the league - and to deal him away, they've got to be getting something pretty spectacular in return. Maybe better to wait until his contract's up, and then send a little delegation to D.C.... Then again, if there's a way that doesn't require selling the farm and mortgaging the zamboni, Gainey will find it. Don't forget - he's the guy who got us Gorges and a 1st round pick for a grossly overpaid, hugely overrated Craig Rivet - the 1st-rounder alone would have been a deal. The guy who got us a serviceable Aebischer for an unserviceable Theodore - the six-million-dollar man. A guy who made the right move re-signing Markov over Souray even when Souray was nearing second-coming status, and whose heart is big enough to know that some guys (i.e. Koivu) you don't trade because brother, it just ain't right. Gainey is an elite GM on a team that has no elite players for him to work with, and if he had an Ottawa or Anaheim roster to manage, the naysayers would all become yeasayers pretty quickly. But while he has no A+ superstars, he does have a roster full of A or A- guys on a good night, and man, he's done a good job with it. Blind faith in anyone is a little silly, and scrutinizing decisions is never unhealthy, but this is a man who has earned our trust. He's done a far better job of rebuilding and mopping up Houle's mess than anyone else could have. The depth of our youth movement is the biggest testament to that. He doesn't get a free pass, but he does get my confidence and respect. Give the man some breathing room and watch him impress.

To Washington: -Komisarek -Plekanec -Halak -1st Round Pick To Montreal: -Ovechkin -3rd Round Pick Would never happen. Komisarek alone, is irreplaceable on the Habs blue line.

If I was the Habs GM I'd consider that trade but I'd also have to figure out what Ovechkin would do to my salary cap as I'd want him to sign a long term deal and not lose him as a UFA in a couple of years. If I was the Washington GM, I would only make that trade if you changed Halak for Price. Kolzig is getting older and has a close relationship with Price. But then if I was Bob Gainey, I would never make that trade.

I also think that the issues of language, media and taxes are pretty tough issues to overcome. Long term, having a $10M player per season on the roster could have a serious impact on growth and balance. Look at the mess in Tampa Bay right now. I think there will come a time where star players will have to agree for contracts for less (so $5M versus $10M per season) so they can play on competitive teams that can win the Stanley Cup. Otherwise they will end up like Tampa or Atlanta.

Ian ...I normally agree with you about a lot of stuff but your posts today are so vague that I don't think anyone knows what you are talking about. Specifically, if anything what are you referring to in your last posts. You are being as vague as Gainey was so please bud let us know what you are referring to. Are you referring to Brisebois? Price maybe going to Hamilton as hinted by Gainey? I respect your opinions when I know what they are but today I really don't know because you won't tell us. Gainey and Carbo have, are making and will make many more mistakes...they are human. Noone on here pretends to know more than them or even a hundredth of what they know. I always look for the positives and if I lived in Montreal I would drop my application at the Bell Center for any and every position they possibly had available with a view of the games. I wouldn't be qualified for any but I sure as hell would apply and I'd proudly hang my rejection letter (if I got that far)on my basement wall and say I tried. If we didn't fabricate some stuff than we'd have a lot more time on our hands and we might have to (gasping while saying) WORK. I am with you on negative posters but the speculating is fun and what sites like this are for. Anything vicious I immediately respond to as do you but I almost get the feeling today you are hinting in my direction. I could be wrong but I don't know beacuse of your posts that aren't directed at anyone ot any specific topic. I don't know Ian. Inserting Brisbois back in the lineup when he is clearly not needed does not spell good judgment or decision making to me. Are you saying that favoritism, personal likes and dislikes do not exist on this team and do not effect coaches or GM's decisions? It does everywhere else so I don't see why Habs would be any different.

Right now there is not much difference between Gorges and Brisebois. Over time one of those guys will have a future on the ice the other off of it. You are right....they do need to throw him a bone and if he plays well enough to stay there he will for a couple games or longer until he has an off game. Like it or not right now Brisebois is higher on the depth chart when healthy then Gorges. That can change but for now it is a fact that everyone is going to have to face. Unfortunately some of the same logic may end up being applied with the forwards where I think it can have a bigger impact as there is a clear difference in styles between some of our callups and our veterans.....that worries me more than this one.

Just a curiosity/point of order here: Let's say a team – say Boston – puts a player, making $5M/year, on waivers, and Chicago picks him up, taking on half his salary. So now Chicago gets him for $2.5M, and Boston’s on the hook for the rest. What if Chicago puts him on waivers again, and let’s say Carolina picks him up. Does that mean that Carolina is only responsible for half of Chicago’s half, i.e. $1.25M?

Sometimes life isn't fair. Samsonov hasn't done a thing in a year and a half and now he gets to play with Brind'Amour or Staal. He'll probably be on the powerplay too. C'mon Ian, You've been around here long enough now, what's there to speculate about? Price had fruit loops instead of corn flakes this morning, what do you think that means?

Tell that to the Leafs (Clemmensen), the Penguins (Conklin skipped Sabourin). I know you are right in theory but given Gainey's statements regarding the "schedule is in our favour" and now this virus Price could find himself in Hamilton to get a few games in by months end. Gainey himself is what prompted the talk of Price going there and he made it clear it is not a punishment thing at all. Either way Huet is going to see the bulk of the action with no back to back games until early February. The idea of everyone moving back is right in 99% of cases but Price is in that 1% that will be handled differently if need be.

What is the speculation. Maybe they would like to showcase the talent of Mr.Halak to trade and get something good in return, who knows. Just hope Price feels better, but it sounds like a mystery flu to me. I think Price will be in Hamilton for a stint.

You argued for 2 days or more that "Huet...Huet....Huet" should be the number one goaltender, and played as the number one goaltender. Now you are hoping Halak gets some work?

It's not a bad idea to keep Brisebois involved if you can. His experience can pay off at playoffs time or of course if we suffer injuries in the second half.
