The Gazette published the first edition of this season's Hockey Inside/Out in Thursday's edition, coinciding with the Canadiens home opener. In it, our hockey experts Red Fisher, Pat Hickey, Dave Stubbs, Mike Boone, Kevin Mio and others look at the Canadiens past and present.

Its too early in the year, but the crew assembled by Gainey does not appear to be turning things around. They appear a bit shaky right into the regular season, almost like as if they are captain of a boat and they're steering the wrong way.....maybe they are just too small to make any difference. Similarly the defense is really in a shamble. Price is still letting in floater goals. If this keeps up, it won't be Martin who goes, it'll be the man who set it up for Martin, Gainey. There's a reason why there are stories in the paper about Gainey, everyone who knows anything knows Gainey is on his way out. Wasting cap space on smurfs who can't turn things around is not good. Whats worse is we are all turning into Leaf type fans, reminiscing about when Hockey was great in Montreal, that is not good. Montreal can win, it should win, and it has a solid revenue base that any GM worth their salt would find a way to win by signing good players.

I think he should be fired for making those two defencement get injured. What an inept jerk!
And then he makes Carry get that crazy paint job. Under the bus, Bob.
Does anyone actually think that Martin could be fired this year if the Habs don't do well out of the gate?? I can't believe that this sort of thing would be published in a major metropolitan newspaper...

Is anybody else curious/excited to see how Carbo does as a commentator?
Yeah, I can't wait to see what happens when the other commentator asks him a question and he says "I have no idea what's wrong with this team."
Man, it's getting like a zoo in here.

Yeah, I like Carbo, I loved him as a player and I really wanted him to succeed as a coach in Montreal so I'm rooting for him no matter where he is or what he does BUT mostly I want a MTL voice on HNIC cuz PJ Stock is a goof and Murray Wilson is only a now & then guest. It seems everything other Canadian NHL team has a voice on HNIC (Hughson - Canucks, Simpson - Oilers, Lee - Flames, the Ottawa knobs (Galley & the "winds, fires" play by play dude), and of course everybody else loving the Laffs)
Things I want to see: - Cammilleri. I think he's someone that gets how special it is to wear the CH - I want to see how he responds to being on the ice for the opening anthem.
- Price's mask. Man, it's out there... reminds you how young this kid is. Let him go crazy as long as he plays well in it.
- Martin's 'system' - I've never been so excited about a system before... but I do think that what we saw in the Edmonton game was starting to work.
- My man Pleks. I'm excited about Pleks this season and really enjoying his smart, gritty ("dirty") play again.
- Moen and GG. Hope this works. It makes some sense... if he can keep up with other guys.
See you all at 7:00!

Dog, what do you like about Plekanec so much? For every one time he impresses the crap out of me, there are nine times where I wonder why he is on this team, let alone still in the NHL.
This is a guy, who apparently mentally, is not able to play in the glare of a MAJOR hockey hot spot like Montreal. Inconsistency can be excusable in a player's first three seasons as he finds his game but this guy found his game two seasons ago before crapping out in that year's playoffs (where he said he played "like a girl") and he has played inconsistent 'girl' hockey ever since!
I'd rather see Lapierre (and Latenedresse) get 2nd line minutes and assignments cuz I think if TommyGirl has a place in MTL, it's as a 3rd line checker or ship him off with the K brothers.
I'm just getting over it. I was one of those hit really hard.
Others
I know had it mild, or just for a couple of days.
I've read a lot - most people have little to fear from H1N1. Those hit harder (in terms of severe illness) are an unusual group: younger adult women, aboriginals, and pregnant women, as well as some people who have asthma (me) or a respiratory problem. But for MOST people it willl be mild. And even in that small percentage it hits severely, there are both medications and equipment we didn't have in 1919... even if the flu is as bad as that one, which I don't believe it is. Hundreds of thousands of people die from the flu each year - literally. The fear with this one is largely that since its a new virus, fewer people have pre-existing immunity so more people will get sick - in other words, not as much the severity, as the numbers.

Well SmartDog you look good except for that tongue hanging out.
I'm glad you got through it okay. I don't know if I trust vaccines anymore. I guess just take your vitamins, wash your hands a lot and get 7-8 hours a night and stay Habcrazy until the warm weather comes back in May or June...

The one in 1876 hit me harder. 1919 was nothing compared to it.
"If there is such a thing as a 'player's player,' it would be Gainey. A phrase often heard and rarely explained, it is seldom applied to the best player of a sport, as Gainey is not, for performance is only a part of it. Instead, the phrase is for someone who has the personal and playing qualities that others wish they had, basic, unalterable qualities - dependability, discipline, hard work, courage - the roots of every team.
"To them, Gainey adds a timely, insistent passion, an enormous will to win, and a powerful, punishing playing style, secure and manly, without the strut of machismo."
There are a few players on this team (and in Hamilton) who should think long and hard after reading this quote.

Does the hockey inside/out come in the Gazzette often?
Fascinating that a global flu outbreak could kill millions in 1919, let alone a supposed strong and robust hockey player like Hall.
Here's hoping this H1N1 flu isn't nearly as bad as the govts/medical experts/media seem to want it to be...
