Canadiens forward Mike Cammalleri returned home one sheet of paper lighter.

Mike Cammalleri offered the definitive assessment of the Canadiens’
season-opening road trip after the Habs’ 3-2 loss to the Edmonton
Oilers Saturday night:
He took a copy of the itinerary for the two-week trip and deposited it in the nearest trash can.
Peripatetic Pat (Hickey, that is) analyzes the team's season-opening trip, which sees them now back home with a 2-3 record.
And here's Robert Lefebvre's revealing, for-fun look at Habs vs. former Habs for the past week. Robert asks: "Can we have Steve Bégin back?"
The Canadiens were given the day off yesterday and will enjoy another day away from the rink today. They return to practice tomorrow in Brossard and resume play Thursday for the home opener at the Bell Centre vs. the Colorado Avalanche, the first in a six-game homestand.
Is it great to be a Yankees' fan or what? They are everything the Habs should be!
OMG. If the playoffs started today the Habs wouldn't be in them. Which means, I think it's a little early in the season to be jumping to conclusions.
I will not rest until i see my boy don the bleu, blanc et rouge.
I will not rest until i see my boy don the bleu, blanc et rouge.
Would you rather be 2-3 and coming home from a long road trip, or be 2-3 and just finishing a home stand (like the Bruins) and be heading out on the road?
Things could be worse...
Barber pole uniforms .. no way ... it pains me to say but this team ... the Greatest and most successful Hockey Organization eerrrrrrrr !!! is in trouble ...
Gainey as much as he's MR Hab ! is certainly not a GM ... fire him .. hire Scotty Bowman or that MacLean dude from PEI or Stevie Y ... thet must be someone out there ..any other ideas .. Bob has to go !
I just saw on RDS that the Canadiens are scheduled to wear the disastrous barber-pole uniforms on October 31 against Boston. None of us will forget the last time they did. Gainey should decree that those uniforms be burned.
What the ****? Gainey neged on them wearing those hideous accursed uniforms for the 2nd time last season because he figured bad karma or he didn't want the players looking like a packing of idiots. Hopefully Gionta leads a player rebellion on the matter.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
We play the laffs on October 31st. Halloween at the Bell.

The game is the only reason why I agreed to my mom for not going trick or treating! I love candy, it's irresistible..but a Habs and Leafs matchup...now that's exotic! (Might as well leave the house during intermissions) ;)
I'll be at the game! No better place on Halloween night!
"All you need in hockey is good character, luck and skills" - Ovie
anybody remember that huet trade for a 2nd round pick? since wen is a number one goalie in the NHL traded for a 2nd round pick...orr even better ribeiro for ninnimaa hahaha think about all that for a sec. Gainey knows hes made some bad moves, and he knows hes on the brink of losing his job....but after all of it i still love him and the habs.
With all this debate going back and fourth Timo is right about one thing. If you are willing to settle for average then thats all you'll ever get. There is nothing wrong with demanding the best as a fan becuase without all of you, none of these conversations or the games themselves would even matter. The Habs are the all time great franchise of this league and i dare say its been 15 years of alot of poor managment, poor drafts, and poor trades that have made us nothing but average. I am not saying there has been no good picks or good decisions, of course there has, but the bad far outweigh the good. Call that what you will but no matter what someone wants to believe, it is simply fact. The proof is that we as an organization have not had 1 superstar that represents this teams since we drafted Patrick Roy. Saku was the only player we drafted that even cracked and stayed on our lineup for an extended period of time(add Markov), and although i did love Saku, he was not a superstar and he played most of his time in Mtl with very little support around him. Almost all other teams in the league have a Star that they can build around, CLb has NAsh, pits has crosby and malkin, wash has ovie, Ana has Getzlaf and perry(oh wait he could have been ours, and to think i thought i heard Gainey say he wanted a big number 1 center...hmm) Det has Datsyuk, Tampa has ST.Louis and Lecavalier, Philly has Richards and Carter(oh wait... we could have had them too) etc etc.... The point is we havent drafted those players and until we do, how can you look at any Gm's tenure as a success? A person can sit back and say hindsight is 20/20 all they want, but at some point you have to make the right decisions at the time they are presented to you or you will never win at anything. All this being said, the current addition of the Habs has both good and bad decisions in it has well. I really do believe there are some good things to build around here but it will take waking up and pin pointing the crap and somehow replacing it with better options. Gionta and Cammy are both great little snipers and were good signings. Gomez is a hard one considering the 7mil salary, so i will wait longer for a decision on him. Moen was a great pick up, latendresse and Laps are fine 3rd liners and if they develop into something more then great, if not then its fine that they add size and chip in some goals from the third line. Josh Gorges is another great suprise pickup who has played with heart for this team. There is however some major mistakes that i just for the life of me can't understand. Why in the world would anyone trying to build a better team sign HAl Gill for 2.5 mil per year? Why is Larague playing at all nevermind being paid 1.5 mil? Is there anyone out there that actually believes this to be off base, if i said we could have rookies playing on the fourth line and 3rd d pairing instead totaling 1 million in salary per year and then took that extra 3 million and brought in another good top six forward to fill the huge hole we currently have, that this wouldnt be a better team?? It just seems brain dead to be throwing money away for players like that. Lastly, IF this team is ever going to even get close to winning anything, they need some major changes to the top 6. We have 3, and i know i will hear it from the Plekanec fans and yes i do think he has played well so far, but the problem is, by choosing gomez to be our top center we are just too small up the middle to win down the stretch, we need a center with some jam and talent up the middle. Dags and PAcs have are showing that they are not top 6 forwards yet(as much as i wanted Dags to be). That brings me to andrei Kostitsyn!!!..... He will always be the guy we have instead of Carter, Getzlaf and Richards to me. I dont care what anyone says, at the time of that draft the canadians talked about how they took a risk with this player because the card on him read as this: overweight, can be lazy and lacks interest, great speed, shot etc.... What we have gotten from him so far is exactly what he has always given, so why are there still people out there asking for him to wake up!! ITs you that needs to wake up, what we see is what we get.... I heard someone on here saying that trading Ribeiro was the right trade cause he was a disgrace to this team, well what the hell would you call what we have gotten from the TITs bros to be? Did Ribeiro ever demand a trade? refuse to report to Hamilion when he was trying to crack our lineup? He also led this team in scoring, did the TITs bros do that for us? One may not like Ribeiro for his ego and thats fine, but that was a stupid trade from a talent standpoint as he is now an 80 point center which we dont have on our team and we have nothing to show for it. We have nothing to show for Souray and his 26 goals, Streit and his 60 points, Ryder and the fact that he led the teams in goals until Carbo showed up and placed him the pressbox for having a slump(anyone dare to guess what Andrei Kostitsyns goal total would be this year if for the next 75 games he spends 10 in the pressbox, and another 15 or so on the 4th line with no pp time? think it will be higher then 14? something tells me not even close). I just dont get why people want to give these brothers from "Belarus"(which is part of the old Soviet Union, so Russians they are to me) the benefit of the doubt when its them that have been the real disgrace to this Team for the past couple years. And for what? the fact that they have produced "AVERAGE" stats at " CERTAIN TIMES" and thats all... Maybe if they were Ryan Getzlaf and his 90 points i may be willing to put up with a little more ;) but i just dont get what it is with these two busts!! What would be a smart GM decision is finding a way to trade both the Kostitsyns for some form of an asset back before the league wakes up and realizes they are worth Nothing! Thats of course hoping that hasent already happened!!
You need to be scored! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PabhBbNQOd0&feature=related
Terrific post as someone said a long post, to me it was the truth alot put into it, also the truth with the stupid trades, not all but some, I agree that we do not have a super star like the other teams which is what we need but it is to get them to come to Quebec. As you say there are a couple out there but are they super stars?? I do not know the answer but I do know that we will not be going anywhere with what we have.I love my HABS & will stand by them win or loose & have been for years [84 years old & still counting] I would love to see them win the Stanley Cup before I leave theis world like in the old days but I can,t see it at the moment.
GO HABS GO!!!!!!
long post.
Okay lets say your are right about the Brothers. Instead of dumping them like we did with Ribeiro and Ryder, lets try to get something for them. You will not get much if you keep on treating like @#$%.
mjames
Theres too many words in this post.
I agree with you bud, nice post. But I have to say that I am pretty sure that if AK46 doesn't play up to his expectations this year (his last year of the contract I believe) Bob might as well trade him.
All you people who criticize Gainey so vehemently should keep a couple of things in mind next time you do.
First, not one of you has an inkling of what goes on with this team behind closed doors. Not even the media does. Secondly, you are not qualified. Before you go on and on about how bad a GM Gainey is, please tell us what you have accomplished in the NHL before you continue to make ridiculous statements pertaining to the management of this team. Stop writing garbage as if it is the gospel. It's not even close to it.
We are looking at the results - poor trades, overspending, player losses , etc. Just look at the facts. Please look at the team objectively. It amazes me that people think Gainey is God. He is a first class human being but he screwed up big time. As I said look at the results. He is either a bad GM or a good GM who screwed up. Whatever the reason this team is bad with little hope of improving over the next three years.
mjames
pfffttt!!
mjames
Like I said, you are not privy to anything that goes on and you're still talking about poor trades,etc...
I don't think he's God, but I don't think he's a buffoon either, unlike some of you people. Compare his pedigree with yours and others here. Then tell me what you know about managing a hockey team in today's NHL.
Qualified? Do you have to be a world renowned chef to know you had a bad meal? Do you need to be a director to know you wasted $12 on a crappy film?
Bob Gainey has improved the team since he took over in 2003.
Unfortunately, at the end of the day the team is not a true Stanley Cup contender yet.
We’re still small down centre, have an average defence (with or without Markov), and have inconsistent goaltending.
The season is young and hopefully the team gets a few more bounces and we can generate more second line scoring.
Bottom line for me is that the Molson boys need to clean out the front office if the team does not make the playoffs.
cammalleri will have more trouble this year....more then u guys think...without iginla on his line....25 goals....and everybody just relax...did you guys actually believe we would go 5-0 or 4-1 on a 5 game road trip to open the season..i certainly did not..weve played our first 5 games on the Road and were 2-3..it could be way worse..were at home for what the next 6 or 7? theres no need to panic.
you may be right. but something like 75% of his goals last year were scored at home, at the saddledome. maybe he's the type of player that loves the home crowd and plays his best at home. it's too early to tell... but he's scored 34 goals in l.a. before, without iginla. can't remember who his linemates were...
Frolov for one, I've heard who the other was, but I've forgotten.
Derek Armstrong.

The Bruins lost 4-3, so their record so far is exactly the same as ours.
EVERYONE should just STFU and keep their opinions to themselves till after thursdays home opener.
Yeah!! Everyone knows you're not supposed to discuss hockey on Habs Inside/Out!! Geez.
YOU TOO,put a sock in it.
Bergeron will turn heads on the PP... just watch! Thursday is the day!
But what about on defense? I really Habs would rather concentrate on their own end first.
EH yo,they need to concentrate on the offensive end and not the defensive end.Like getting the puck outta their own end!!!
They should "Streit" him and put him on the 4th line. So we can keep Weber.
Can't be any worse than it's been since Metro got hurt.
WHY CANT WE JUST CALL UP PK SUBBAN??!!!WHY DOES THIS ORGANIZATION ALWAYS SEEM TO MAKE THE WRONG MOVES,ALL THE TIME?!!!AYAYAEYAYAE.......
to earley for PK.
What makes you say not calling up PK is the wrong move? Letting him cut his teeth in Hamilton seems like a good move to me. When he dominates there, then bring him up. I don't like to see guys like Pax and D'ags make the team before at least proving themselves in Hamilton first. What's wrong with earning your spot instead of having it handed to you before you're ready?
I agree with respect to Subban and Pacioretty, but D'Agostini had 2 full seasons in Hamilton and started last year as one of the AHL's leading scorers through the first 20 games before being called up. He's done what's needed there and it's time to see what kind of player he can be in the NHL. I am not saying his game doesn't need more work, just that he has done what's asked of prospects with their time in the AHL.
Having said that, he probably could benefit from a stint in the AHL right now to restore his confidence and maybe concentrate on his defensive game, out of the glare, but he's waiver eligible now and that might not be an option.
he hasn't been called up already has he?
Most of you mean we are Realists not Pessimists.
Gainey will be gone. He has done enough damage. Believe It or not.
Price Is a great goalie on a bad Defensive/offensively challenged team.
I do not walk In a field of daisy's, nor do I pick roses all day long. I live In the real world.
I know the Habs Inside/out and they are not a good hockey team.
I LOVE the Habs!!!/Good or bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
you're right i would much rather have the team pre-gainey.
with our highest scoring guy getting a whopping 50 points.
and our drafting was absolutly excellent pre-gainey... i mean all those budding superstars tearing it up in other teams.
now we don't have any good prospects at all.
how dare he bring in a legitamate scorer in cammalleri... iw ould much rather have martin rucinsky back.
what is Gainey thinking bringin in a hard worker like gionta, get me Dainus Zubrus back, now that was a hockey player!!!!
--- we need a kovalev
lol go donald audette. forget cammalleri hahhaha
Interesting sarcasm in a poetic form....Nice
omg i didn't even notice that hahahaha
--- we need a kovalev
you and others have been watching too many reruns of Fantasy Island. Tatoo was a great actor.
I LOVE the Habs!!!
And Chris Murray. Who can forget Chris Murray. And David Wilkie. And the big trade of Wilkie, Tucker and Richer for Pouln, Vukota and Ulanov. Ahhhh, memories. The Peanut/Tremblay regime. Something to aspire to in these our times of woe.
I have few questions/observations:
Why are players disrespected by Habs' management?
Why was AK46 publicly called out by JM when other players have made more egregious mistakes .
JM states that everyone had a fresh slate when he joined the team. If that was the case it seems SK74 was demoted and publicly embarrassed because he missed the team bus (not the game) and waited for a stretch pass during practice. For who would say SK74 did worse - they were not there so they should just shut up.
Who was a better Gm - Gainey or Andre Savard?
Would the team be better if Savard had remained the GM?
Does Gainey have plan to correct his massive overspending?
Is Gainey one of the top GM's in the league or one of the ten worst?
The team continues to be plagued by player issues - The common denominator is Gainey.
mjames
Would Gainey's G.m. abilities be in question at ALL if he wasn't hog tied by the massive obsticles that just happen to come with the incredibly difficult job he has "gratefully" taken on in a location whereby not even lenghthy lucrative contracts offered to native francophone son's of the beloved homeland of the province of quebec are spitten, let alone most other players with no ties that simply will not play in Mtl regardless of the huge money on the Table. He is dealing with trade issues whereby players will not be part of a deal that sends them to mtl. or if they are given no choice Bob know's the committment won't be there and they will leave at the earliest possible opportunity leaving him no choice but to walk away from such deals. Given all the *** that he deals with with respect to constant overseeing of his duties by you/me and millions of hopefull hab fans worldwide not to mention the insanity of the reporters and media which is over the top in covering the smallest details in the day to day operations do you not think this guy's life as a g.m. in Mtl. is hard enough. Ill answer all your questions above with one answer: I'm glad he has showed the courage to fullfill his duties in Mtl. despite all the roadblocks he must daily face. We are a better Org. today than we have been in 15yrs and somehow beyond my understanding he just now getting quality U.f.a.'s to join the Habs. Today there is promise in our draft pick's and hope for the future. And lastly the common denominator is not Gainey but as mentioned earlier an impossible enviroment to function in, and if mwe were in Dallas Philly DEt. Tor. N>Y we wouldn't even be talkin this *** cause we would be a top flight contender every year with a cup or 2 under our belts just as Dallas was when he left,so how bout back off cause this is not evn close to being objective or being realistic on your part as i see it.
Imagine you have been hired by a company in a managerial position. On one of your first days of work, an employee sleeps in and show up to work late. While he is at work, he gives very little effort, doesn't talk to any other employee, and when you explain to him how to do a specific project, he doesn't listen, decides to do the project his own way which is nothing like the way you wanted it done.
You, being a manager, are being counted on by your boss to make sure the company is successful. Are you going to count on this employee to get you to where you want to be. I doubt it.
Bye Bye Sergei
What employee gets paid 3+ million per year as do Hockey players. Get all the perks, play grappy & still get paid?
To continue with your analogy. In your managerial position you see that management is not able to retain it some of its talented people. They seem to leave or are removed for a variety of reasons and go on to do extremely well with your competition. Since people and your ability to train and retain them is vital to your business what do you do? Well if you are part of the board of directors you say bye bye to some senior management in the person of one Mr . Gainey.
mjames
The thing is is that it is not Jacques Martin's job to get rid of Gainey. He can't fire his boss. However, he can make decisions on his employees (such as SK). SK is the one that blew it, not JM.
Amen
Av's beating the bruins 4-2 after 2. Rask's had bad rebound control on the first 3 he is obviously a first round bust and must have been out partying last night. Then gets beat high glove side on the 4th one, must be a weakness that will keep him from ever being a star in this league, Bruins give up 2 pp goals and a shortie, they must suck defensively and their coach sucks. Finally, looks like they may fall to 2-3 (same as us)but their games have all been at home. Yes,this is all sarcasm.
Funny - Last year at least Price partied the night before also.
mjames
Our Habs will be fine. Way too early to hit the panic button yet.
A guy goes into a bar and there is a robot bartender. The robot says, "What will you have?" The guy says "Martini." The robot brings back the best martini ever and says to the man, "What's your IQ?" The guy says, "168." The robot then proceeds to talk about physics, space exploration and medical technology.
The guy leaves, but he is curious, so he goes back into the bar. The robot bartender says, "What will you have?" The guy says, "Martini". Again, the robot makes a great martini, gives it to the man and says, "What's your IQ?" The guy says, "100." The robot then starts to talk about Nascar, Budweiser and John Deere tractors.
The guy leaves, but finds it very interesting, so he thinks he will try it one more time. He goes back into the bar. The robot says, "What will you have" The guy says, "Martini", and the robot brings him another great martini. The robot then says, "What's your IQ?" The guy says, "Uh, about 50."
The robot leans in real close and says, "So... you gonna cheer for the Leafs again this year?"
Listen we very well could be 0-5 to start the season and all you people complaining about the negative comments .....well....i bet an 0-5 start and you would be fillin the site up with that negativity as well.People can say what they want, its their right. But above all the reason people speak negatively bout the habbys at times is cuz they love the em and they want to see them succeed and win every game if possible.!!!Aight??
In a city where one loss is the end of the world, i'm going to try and point out some positive things about a road trip that could have gone much, much worse for the Habs.
- The dressing room is packed with new faces, and fresh leadership. After the getaway this team had at Teen Ranch, and two weeks on the road, i'm seeing that this team is already just that, a TEAM. More so than we were even last year. People are sticking up for eachother and playing hard.
- The G, G and C line that we boast as our big 3 is proving that they can bring some offense. They haven't really been dominating, but I think that once Cammalleri can light up his first goal for the habs, they will be a force to reckon with.
- The lack of secondary scoring is not something i'm too worried about, Plekanec, Lappiere, Latendresse and Moen have shown AMAZING character thus far, they will start scoring very soon. Plekanec already has. Let's not talk about the brothers K. I'm huge fans of both of them. But i'm FINALLY starting to lose my patience.
- Carey price looks good. He was brilliant for 2 games straight. What happened in vancouver was hardly his fault. Most of those goals were beautiful. And he didn't look bad in edmonton. He didn't look great, but it was fine.
- Every game, minus the Vancouver catastrophe, the Habs are looking more and more comfortable under JM's system. As soon as they get the idea, it will be very effective. Shots against: 46-toronto, 35-Buffalo, 28- Calgary, 19- Edmonton.
- Bergeron is on the way. His name isn't Markov, but he's more mobile than Gill and he can man the PP like nobody's business. Hopefully he'll get Cammy going, our other powerplay genius. Cammy had 19 PP goals last year. Jarome or no Jarome, the guy is great.
- Hamrlik looks much better than last year. He's been pretty responsible, and he looks more or less like an NHL vet when he's out there. He's still not worh $5.5, but whatever, at least he's on the ice.
- And last but not least. Brian Gionta had me puzzled all summmer. I had never really seen him play too much, and I could not for the life of me figure out why Gainey would sign him instead of bringing Tanguay back into the mix, who had a great season while he was healthy. But Gio has gone above and beyond what I expected of him. He is a leader on and off the ice as far as I can tell. He plays every single shift like it's his last. He knows how to score goals and he's looking like he just might be Mr. Clutch for us. I dont know why he was scoring less every year in NJ, maybe his role was different. I don't know. If he doesn't score 30 - 40 amazing goals this year, i'll be surprised. I'll also be surprised if we don't see the C on his sweater within the next few weeks.
I hope I was succesful in calming down a few habs fans who have been twiddling their thumbs and feeling nauseous in anticipation of thursday night's game. In the abundantly reiterated words of Pierre McGuire: "Don't Panic!". As hard as that may be...
You know what I'm thankful for? NHL Centre Ice free preview.

I'm listening..
Too much chronic negativity on this site. Let's give the team 20 to 25 games before passing judgment and lower the expectations a little. Maybe playing somewhere between 500 to 600 hockey is a realistic goal for a team playing w/o its MVP.
Where is Ian (Cobb) when you need him?
Off topic but can anyone tell me whats going to Happen with latendresse in the long run
Is he going to be here his whole career because no other team wants him? Any Ideas anyone?
at least hes tryin.. the guy knows his skill limit, and has a young family to support.. He just needs to keep hitting people.
anyone playing 3rd line minutes that can pot 16 goals a year can stay on my team as long as he wants.
Thanks for asking.
He's headed to the KHL.

Any updates on The Bruins game? I'm too lazy to navigate myself.
2-0 Avs at the end of the first. Savard and Chara playing their butts off but nothing to show so far.Tuuka Rask in goal...12-10 shot advantage to Boston. Colorado 1 for 1 on PP and Boston 0 for 2.

Is it possible to still get tickets to the Return of the Kovy? Anyone have have tricks, or ideas on how to get last minute tickets? (I know they are Sold Out)
Timo, it's five games. Look at the teams in the years since Montreal last won the cup with big dreams, big plans and nothing to show for it:
Islanders, Philly, Bruins, Sabres, Sens, Caps, Hawks, Blues, Flames, Nucks, Sharks.
At one time in the last 18 years they all said "this is our year" yet they've all suffered the humilitation of having to rebuild.
(the Leafs said every one of those years consequetively, that's why they're not listed... idiots)
Think the Habs are any different? Stop living in the 70s. Yes, if we make it to the playoffs we will probably squeak in... so what? It's nice to see the Habs are human rather than constantly having to live up to unrealistic expectations.
Ok this post essentially is what I've tried to say all day...
Which only tells me I need to step away from the computer a bit, as I have clearly allowed my annoyance of the negativity in these parts to cloud my judgement when replying.
All in all - EXCELLENT post P.B.
Hit the nail on the head frankly.
We must not get too negative about the negativity.
You seem to be surviving the pandemic.
What kinda drugs did they pump you with for this SWU thing? Or was it just the classic "drink plenty of fluids and stay in bed" Shtick.
Fluids. They won't let me come near a doctor or within 500 feet of a school zone.
Something the pessimists need to keep in perspective is that this team will get better and better as the season progresses, JM's system will be better understood and better executed, now I'm not saying will win a cup or go DEEP in post season but I expect us to make post season.
IN CONTRAST: the teams we have played so far have more than likely played at or near the top of their games (do you really expect TO to get better?) even teams like CALGARY who are capable of turning it up more than what we've seen have less room to progress than our BELOVED HABS.
So if your not on the bandwagon go suck an egg.
I think it's pretty encouraging to see Boston sucking, they have no excuses, no big changes, no coaching changes.

Has there been any press/talk surrounding how AK46 felt being benched? Obviously, he couldn't have been happy but... has there been any interviews/feedback regarding how he plans to bounce back or if he's decided he wants out of MTL and demanding a trade etc etc ... Or how Sergei responded?
Andrei is sooo thick between the ears that he probably still doesn't know he was benched. It is irrelevant what Sergei thought. He is a nobody.

Western trip a bust for the last decade, 5-19-2-4!
I think we would be hard pressed to find a club that has a worse record then that over those 3 clubs, in the same time span.
Update
The leafs are 18-11-1-3 over the same time span, Ottawa has a .500 record at 9-9-1-2, Boston getting 6 wins over 14 games, with Buffalo having 4 wins over 16 games.
2-0 avs beating bruins so far 7 mins in the game,go avs.
