About
Dave Stubbs has been a sportswriter since 1976, which was roughly a decade after he wore the first of many holes through the knees of his jeans playing nets in road hockey (using a modified butterfly popularized by Hall of Famer Glenn Hall). He still has the welts to show on his shins from that rotten, frozen orange ball.
Stubbs kept thick hockey scrapbooks filled with game summaries and Gazette and Montreal Star stories, collected dozens of Bee Hive Corn Syrup photos and put a fortune of hockey cards through the spokes of his bikes. First book ever owned: Scrubs On Skates, the classic by Scott Young (Neil's dad).
Stubbs's fantasy is to travel back in time to the 1950s and watch the great Canadiens dynasty that won five consecutive Stanley Cups. Or a decade earlier, to watch Elmer Lach centre Rocket Richard and Toe Blake on the fearsome Punch Line. Or at least to get Rogie Vachon into the Hockey Hall of Fame – where he belongs.

Can we not just buy out his contract. It would at least give us a half million extra to spend the next 2 years.Better than nothing.
Sigh ... being an outnumbered 'chick', I am going to stay away from the gist of this commercial :)
The ONLY thing I can think of is that Laraque has become a vegan in part for health reasons, but he can drink whatever chemical crap is in that drink?
Oy ...
"... et le buuuuut!"
Whew, that commercial was lame and painful to watch. Looks like something PBS (CBC) would produce. Now, I can see where he got that "lower body injury" this off-season. That frozen smile on BGL's face is so farcically fake. Please BGL don't embarrass us any more. You have better kick some a$$ on the ice this year!!!!!!!
Wait for it......INCREDIBLY FUNNY!
Bertrand Raymond went crazy on Laraque because the player said he would only answer the journalists questions sent to him before.
Heres what he said: Bertrand Raymond
Thanks for the link mate. Funny, but I also agree with his article. What arrogance BGL has to demand this. I wish he played elsewhere, because he has done nothing but disappoint since his arrival.

Demand What?
This ad is so lame. It's a living, I suppose.
That has to be the worst commercial I've ever seen, but it did have its redeeming qualities. Did you guys say Georges Laracque was in it?
Georges Laraques does everything other than play hockey. He's like the Dos Equis guy.
But more importantly, those girls were HOT.
LOL hilarious comment my friend. "It's funny 'cause it's true"
tsn poll: who will win the cup
all 6 canadian teams lead the poll
16.7% to the canucks and 9.3 to the leafs...habs come in a steady 7.6
talk about bias.
-I will not respond to destructive criticism about: D'Agostini, Price, Plekanec, O'Byrne
WTF?????\
the leafs winning the cup before the habs? c'mon. Seriously it will be a cold day in hell, wait , a total ultimate freeze over that will totally freeze and kill all mankind before this happens.
Habs will do o.k , not great, but I firmly believe that this game saturday night will set the pace.
somebody*( laracque, stewy, ob needs to totally smack down komi ( B. Arnold) right off the hop. This will determine our season.
No F'N around go habs go !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Make that thurs. night No excuses... none... beath these losers so I don't jhave to listen to their horse@@@t friday morn.
See Laraque can deek around players and has a lot of speed. What? Those are scantily-clad women and not the Boston Bruins? Ah never mind....le sigh.
Octane originally wanted to use me for this commercial for my glorious outlet passes. But then realized my flowing hair and good looks would be nothing but a distraction for the ladies and nothing would ever get done. FULL BREEZER 4 LIFE.

Woah, you're still around. Umm, how's racing?
hey hey, it's patrice brisebois.... how's your retirement so far?
<-----The future of Georges Laraque.
he's retired.
where's a moderator when you need one?
Get on the job Doug! Boone's not paying you to merely read posts is he?
good point. i'm going to get out there and start deleting!
how are things? ready for the season?
All in good fun, Doug. I see it as a bit of a tribute, actually.
Why do you need a moderator? Who is he abusing or personally attacking on this site? I personally find it entertaining and besides, there are much worse people on this site then him.
he's being sarcastic.... ;-)
clearly!
"We'll be back to the game, right after this educational commercial...."
-----I'm back on the addiction. That's right, I'm on the Habs!-----
Well, that ad is a head shaker. No doubt about it. That's one of those things where you look back a couple of years later and ask, 'what the hell was I thinking'.
The point is : a couple thousand bucks for BGL hehe thats about it.
Ouch! My back! My back! I can't move unless I'm surrounded by hot chicks and you throw money at me!!!
BGL should become a player agent. He knows how to rake in a lot of money for mostly having a good time and doing nothing he doesn't feel like.
I wonder if he makes more money per minute for the commercial or for playing (and not playing) for the Habs.
--------------------------------------------------- `Could this team miss the playoffs? Who knows?' - Bob Gainey on the new Habs.
Just saw this... ouch... hhhhhhot! Damn... how come I don't get to be in commercials like that?
BGL is semi-retiered...has a lot of time to kill, Maybe you work too hard? :)

I remember hearing during last season that the Montreal Canadiens have never started a game without a French Canadian defencemen in the lineup during their entire 100 years as an organization. Can anyone confirm this and could this possibly be "one" reason why Mathieu Carle is still lingering in training camp and hasn't been sent down to Hamilton?
I don't know whether management even realizes it or not or whether it's of any importance to them whatsoever. It certainly doesn't matter to me, I just found it to be an interesting observation.
...Jack Todd is an American draft dodger ...and when it comes to 'character issues' ...Jack's credibility was as limp as an old, Old Man's ...Sherwood

Todd protested the Vietnam war and left his country permanently to come to Canada. Whereas others like George Bush and *** Cheney had connections and got deferrments to avoid being drafted for Vietnam. So does that make them draft-dodgers with 'character issues' too? Food for thought.
You don't have to agree with Todd's writing style Habitant in Surrey but bringing in his political beliefs is non-relevant my friend. Let's keep the politics separate from hockey.
...I throw Bush and Cheney in the SAME potato-sack as Todd ...absolutely No Difference
...if You have a difference with Your government ...You stay within Your borders to make the argument ...in Bush's and Cheney's cases they hid behind their social privileges ...and let good men fight their battles for them
...Cassius Clay (Muhammed Ali) ...had EVERYTHING To Lose ...He stayed ...risked prison ...made His opinion known ...now THAT was 'character' personified ...to this day, Ali remains a hero of mine, even though I differed completely with His opinions
...Todd ? ...his writing-style 'shtick' ...is regularily, mercilessly, dismembering varied targets' characters and motivations ...IF That was His choice, after tip-toeing over the border, as the best way to make a living ...then he better have some credentials of his own to justify his journalistic and character credibility ...BEFORE vivisecting anyone

Well put.
Ok, maybe I'm missing something. But why are you referencing two dinosaurs: Jack Todd, and an article from Grahame in the NP from last season?
...BECAUSE PB ...the National Post article is as relevant today ...as it was the day it was written
...besides ...what ya got agin Dinosaurs PB ? ...they use ta Live & Love ...just like You

I might be "out there" as far a Jack Todd is concerned. But, it seems to me that it took a hell of a lot more guts to do what he did in passing on the Viet Nam War than my late brother that was drafted. (He did not die in the conflict.) I don't always agree with Todd, but I always read his columns, enough said. (Personally, I'd rather spend a few hours with him at a bar than many of the schills that cover the Habs anyday.)
"passing" on the war? is that politique for being a coward?
Tell you what...lets have a vote.Who wants to go to another country and burn and bomb the place out killing as many Lil children , old folk and women as possible as well as poison and land mine it up to make sure the commie's and the mass weapons of destruction dont get us in our sleep ? NOT ME or Ali.......I'll wait for the next Hitler.
You need to do some studyin' my friend. Do a little research on Sherman's "March to the Sea" for a start. War ain't pretty. Never was, never will be. Considering the number of guys I knew who were killed in lower Manhattan on 9/11, I would have nailed those bastards with a nuke and gone to Mass that evening and felt good about it.
Yeats ,love ya as a hockey bro but I got to disagree with you on this one .....We north Americans put crazy Saddam in power to protect the oil flow and hired the Taliban to fight the Russians and we're warned twice about the W.T.C. ATTACKS BEFORE they happened. It's a funny thing while the states were not looked at favorably by the world ,Canada was always thought of as a cool country of peace keepers....well the times have changed and they hates Canada too !I 'd say it's time to change our direction a wee bit and try some other way of sharing this dying planet for the sake of every ones children ,PEACE.......
Well said, my friend. I am in 100% agreement...I'll just leave it at that.

The jury's still out on that one.
Read a couple of posts down. You've been good and inflammatory, but I ain't biting.
That's overly judgmental. There are a number of reasons to not go to war, not the least of which is a profound conviction that wars rarely (if ever) actually fix a problem.
There are many different kinds of bravery. And there are many different expressions of cowardice.

That's fair. I disagree, but this isn't exactly the place for this discussion, so I will politely extricate myself from it.
Yeah, definitely not the kind of discussion for here. :)

agree with that.
still think todd's an ***, though, with war, without war, or whatever. just want him to put away the keyboard.
A pacifist is the bravest person in the world. Someone who is prepared to die before hurting someone else.
If you are not prepared to die, then you are just a coward.
Mmm..well, yes, some of the time. I do not think the pacifists that sit around and lobby for no guns are brave. However I think the medics in wwII + wwI are some of the bravest people in history.

so is todd the koivu or the plekanec of journalism?
maybe I should've said "lives to write another day"
....just earning the respect and admiration of Hab fans everywhere....
maybe's he's wearing the sweatbands on his ankles to somehow support his wonky back. Well, he's suppose to be in the lineup thursday. Come on George, let's do it up.
I also like how he's now refusing interviews...wtf george. I think those octane girls have gone to your head.

Does anyone know a site where I can get and easily printed version of last years scorers? Top 4 to 5 hundred would do - I'd like to get my hands on a pick-list for all the guys in my draft!
On a different note, was anyone else happy to see Breezer taking a shot at Jack Todd (an article from a cople of days ago) for ragging on him so hard. I'll admit that I read his articles all the time, but man, when he latches on to a "zero" he just won't let it go! Case in point, how many years was he wasting space hammering Jeff Loria and co. in his Monday Morning QB column!
Anyhow, just nice to see someone point a finger at him for once....
Here's to Thursday night!
www.dobberhockey.com - everything you need is there.
Mike - this site rocks. You are the man. Thanks.
tf if you buy a copy of the sportsforecaster hockey(carey price on the cover) it has a pull out flip chart with the top 500 players listed and there projected totals for this year1 i've used it twice this year in both of my drafts on the weekend! i bought 2 editions of it
Thanks my man, I'll take a look. I'm always good for a mag or two myself every draft season, but I find that they never have a good scorers list that's good for photocopying - but I guess that's on purpose, eh.....
Good Luck in your Pool All!

Agree. Why don't we just make Roy an offer. Just as good I'm sure.
Totally agree
This commercial is the epitome of why fans have turned on Laraque. He is too present in various media for someone who has not proven himself at all or found his place on the team.
George, we are ready to back you 100% and we support you, but you have to give us more than entertainment and interviews. For God's sake, protect Price, Markov and our three forwards. Bother the opponent any way you can. Target the troublemakers and hit them before they hit us. Do what it takes.
spot on
...And the rumour mill grinds.
I still don't like how this was handled. Martin was saying that no cuts would be made until after the Teen Camp thing, and then he cuts Sergei right before the camp.
Just doesn't seem wise to me - if you want a guy to fit into your system, you keep him in the system and make him feel welcome. If he doesn't make the team at the end and gets sent down with everybody else, much better. And if you feel he needs supervision, best he's under your wing, no?
That move will likely alienate both Kotsitsyn's and we need them both going full guns.
What's not to like? The kid earned the cut. Watch the RDS interviews with Martin and Pleks (I think), where they state clearly that Sergei's lack of maturity and professionalism was a problem. It looks to me like this kid is too effing stupid to understand the message management and coaching have been sending him.
Rolling yourself over a barrel for a kid with attitude problems is NOT the best way to instill a good work ethic in your team. Martin and Gainey did the right thing here. As for who will be alienated, I think Andrei is too much of a pro to let this bother him... but if their feathers are ruffled, so be it. They are pros, they should act like it.

Chorske's Rule #1: as the Habs' lead in any given game increases, the probability of a HIO poster predicting an imminent Stanley Cup championship approaches one.
For the record, the video does not show Plekanec saying what is quoted in the article. Meanwhile, the video is otherwise delivered verbatim.
Pleks says something like.... we all know his game is all about work ethic... and when he works he's a great player.
True. I was paraphrasing a bit unfairly for Sergei.
_______________
Chorske's Rule #1: as the Habs' lead in any given game increases, the probability of a HIO poster predicting an imminent Stanley Cup championship approaches one.
So did the reporter. As I said, his video report followed the written report every step of the way, except in it's translation of Pleks' comments.
I don't blame him, do you have any idea how hard it is to score coke and hookers in Hamilton??
Toronto's only an hour drive away if you gun it. He can call Grabs to hook him up.
bahahahaha.....ship the malcontent to the laffs and he can rot with his belarusian buddy.

Hey Boys,

I though BGL was a vegan cuz he's so milking it there!
Those girls are way too skinny and too common, just walk on St- Cath in Mtl or Grande Allée in Qc or go to any CEGEP and you see those of those skinny little thing. I want a little more meat.
But since Laraque is a vegan i understand he chose those girls :)

Shoot out to 24 cups about me as Captain.
At my age, (24cups,) I play left wing with speed and an understanding for the game. But as round as i am now, I can't shoot my booming shot anymore. I need to press my stick hard on the ice now, to keep balanced.
"Captain" I'll take now,!! you see I've been a Kernel all my life Steve.
What is this , Ian doing a play on words. Way to go dude, a MAJOR step here anyways!
Shameful, just shameful ;-)
