Richard Zednik's condition continues to improve after undergoing life-saving surgery at Buffalo General Hospital. Yesterday, Zednik was upgraded from stable to good condition and has been moved from the intensive care unit to a private room.



CKAC and RDS are reporting that the Florida Panthers' forward could be released as early as today.

After being accidentally sliced in the neck by teammate Ollie Jokinen's skate, Zednik reportedly lost one-third of the blood from his body before the deadly flow could be stopped.

That, however, didn't stop the 32 year-old Slovak from asking when he could get back on the ice. For a good summary of the story, click here: TSN on Zednik

Zednik, a former Hab, is earning $1.5 million this season and is under contract next year at $1.75 million. In 54 games this season, he has 15 goals, 11 assists and is -5. His best season was in 2002/03, when he notched 31 goals and 50 points in 80 games.

He is married to Canadian actress Jessica Welch, with whom he has a four year-old daughter named Ella.

Prior to tonight's game versus Montreal, the Florida Panthers, in conjuction with Florida Blood Centers, are hosting a blood drive just outside of the BankAtlantic Center. Donations will be accepted from 4:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Thanks Chris for the links. It gave me the chance to post a message for Zednick to get well soon. I had the same reaction as 24Cups below, when I saw Zednick skate to the bench by himself. Wow!

Thanks Chris - this is very helpful and sure beats having to google all around the net for updates. I still find it remarkable that Richard Zednik was able to immediately get up off the ice, cover his neck, and get to the bench. Those precious moments may have saved his life.
